Car and dog stolen at a petrol station - police doing nothing

A friend of mine Ross had his border collie Tyson, and his dark Blue Vauxhall Vectra estate car reg KJ55 XFZ stolen from garage at Marston Morteine near Junction 13 of the M1 on the 7th Dec.
In the car was his mobile, so he has contacted O2 who have confirmed the thief has used the phone and if the police ring them they can provide the last known point the phone was used.
He has contacted the police who are being bloody unhelpful and are basically saying they can't ring O2 and the point they provide will only be approximate. [Basically dogs are counted as property and don't rank on the police scale of things]

Ross is waiting for the owner of the garage to come back later tonight for CCTV footage of the thief and to get a better idea of the direction the car went. He believes the car was driven south along the M1 to Watford or Rickmansworth area

We have put info on every place we can think of related to dogs and cars, and its also on the dog lost site here All the details for ross are on dog lost

Forgot to say. If you see either the car or Tyson (picture on doglost) then PLEASE ring Ross or doglost. Tyson is a much loved family pet and Ross and his family are tearing their hair out over him being missing

So sorry to hear this! Keep your chins up--missing dogs do reappear. I know of two who've been missing for at least 24 hours and have turned up. One after three or four days.

Oh--and why not put in a link to Tyson's Doglost ad here?

is the dog microchipped?

tbh his best bet would be to contact the dog rescue charities. Chances are that these people meant to steal the car and it just so happened that the dog was inside. If their intention wasn't to steal the dog, then it's likely they'll probably just abandon him somewhere, sorry. But tracing his mobile phone etc wouldn't help them find the dog, and presumably o2 have now disabled the phone so even if their last point of contact could be traced they could be hundreds of miles away by now.

if the dog has been dumped then hopefully someone will pick him up.
