What is Macron thinking? This is surely his least productive foot-stamp so far?

Especially as officials in Paris are saying there was no chance of delivering the old type diesel boats within a decade of the final deadline.

I quite like a president who stands up to the US. Like Hugh Grant in Love Actually! Makes a change from Boris’ humiliating licking of the orange arse. So it’s probably going down quite well with his home audience.

He has elections coming up that's why we have seen the foot stamping . Ironic really the French are usually on the other side of this with defence deals.

It’s a bit of a failure in terms of their ambassadors though and the intelligence they are meant to provide. If I was Macron I’d be pretty cross with my ambassadors in both Australia and the US. How did they not know or have any inkling? It’s their job to know things like this isn’t it? Are they not moving in the right circles for example?
I dunno but I think Macron is right to be cross but it’s a failure of French diplomacy. If the situation was reversed and it was the UK that was blindsided I’m sure Boris would have choice words for the U.K. ambassadors.
Australia should have told them too. That’s also a diplomatic failure imo.

According to the Times, it was kept very quiet only 10 people in the loop before it was announced as a done deal. I assume M Macron is hopping livid, but I also suspect that there's a lot of political anger at being left out, even though there was no chance that France was going to deliver the (steampunk) subs on time or budget, according to French official sources.
