I can't help but think that maybe she needs help (which may involve been sectioned and detained), not locking up in a general prison. She has mental health problems.

i am inclined to agree SKSS..... thank goodness the baby survived.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 04/12/2007 17:21

Makes no sense, does it? On the one hand people are accused of having MSBP and have children taken away after diagnosis by a psychiatrist (or pediatrician ), not a proper trial. On the other hand someone who harms their baby is locked up and punished.

Can't help thinking our society has some real problems with how to deal with people who harm their children.

It's my local rag-poor girl & poor baby. As you say Stripey she needs help not locking up.

We have a good young persons psyche unit in Lincoln hospital which is just across the road from the prison- but I think it's men only, sadly.

ArmadilloDaMan · 04/12/2007 17:43

She needs help that girl, not locking away.

Poor baby though.

IntergalacticWalrus · 04/12/2007 17:45

How awful

SpikeandDru · 04/12/2007 17:48

Poor girl needs help - prison is not the right place for her. Depends if she admitted doing it though. Wonder if her defence team got a psychiatric opinion.

LuckyStarOfBethSalem · 04/12/2007 18:00

Is her condition the same as the other lady supposedly had. The one who had been threatened with having her baby taken at birth?

I agree that the poor woman obviously needs some kind of help, not sure if prison will help her.

ChopsterRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 04/12/2007 18:04

it says at the end of the story that she admitted it. i can't believe they are sending her to general prison. She'd bound to get a rough time there, and surely with that dx she does need psychiatric help. I guess there maybe more to it though.

edam · 04/12/2007 18:11

Lucky, the other lady you are thinking about was not actually diagnosed with Munchausen's by proxy and had never harmed a baby nor any other human being. That's the (massive) difference.

Agree if this woman did harm her baby she needs psychiatric help. Plenty of people who have actually killed are sent to Broadmoor or other secure hospitals - why not this woman?

Poor Baby, I hope that the lil one has not suffered any longterm damage because of this
But yes, the mum does need help which won't be found in a prison
