Can someone explain what's happening in Afghan?

So please forgive me but I am very confused about the current situation if Afghanistan.
I try to not watch the news, and read papers etc but obviously I'm aware of what's happening over there.
Can anyone explain in simple terms what has happened?
Who's in the wrong and started it all?
Are the people leaving because it's dangerous?
Will they all come to the UK?
And will some have to stay?

It's a complex situation going back hundreds of years. Real life does not have good guys and bad guys.

And the population of Afghanistan is nearly 40 million
Of course they won’t all come to live here (or anywhere)
Although most civilised countries will take their fair share of refugees to allow people to escape the threat of death and have a safe life elsewhere

Christ the history you are missing extends through decades. More recently America and the uk got involved on spurious grounds promising those who helped would have their protection. The army can for example provide air protection that the locals can’t replicate. The Taliban (sometimes armed by the Americans in the past but more recently by Pakistan and China) have been waiting for American troops to go so they can control the country and Biden in suddenly pulling them out collapsed the stability in the areas that had some. The female educators, doctors, journalists are now targets. The police and interpreters are now targets. Already women have been killed for not wearing burqas and women’s rights campaigners have been targeted. Men have been tortured and killed. Some will come to the uk and done will stay but a fraction of those we should welcome. After all interpreters have been stranded despite living in fear for years. I know a few immigrants with stories of such harrowing loss. It’s heartbreaking.

Not hundreds of years, thousands.

Alexander the Great called Afghanistan 'The Graveyard of Empires.'

But the good news is that our esteemed PM is going to 'pressure' POTUS to stay just a little bit longer.
