Body of little girl found in box in Galveston, Texas

Very sad, I can't do links but if you Google Galveston and body it will come up. There are 110 missing little girls in the US, they just have to find out which one she is. Sadly not reported in the UK.

my sister lives in Galveston County.

there tends to be a lot more seriously violent crime in the US than here, and a lot more stranger abduction.

SecondhandRose · 25/11/2007 20:14

Will try again then cod.

www.khou.com/topstories If this doesn't work it's cod's fault.

what appalling journalism though. And if they don't know who the child is why is there a picture of a blond smiling girl there?

weird. And reads like a bad novel.

Donnie, a lot of American reporters write in that weird style, so you have to read to the middle of the story to find out what its about. I can't understand why.

and most of the time, lyra, when i was living there, i gave up.

i never switched on the local news, as at least half of it was sensationalist tatt.

features like 'miracle monday' -cue pitch for donations for someone's cat's kidney transplant - or 'wednesday's child' or stories about people who saw the face of Jesus in a tortilla or some other shite like that.

god, i just got some very bad flashbacks there.

southeastastra · 25/11/2007 20:36

awful world, like that little boy on the thames

AnneMayesR · 25/11/2007 20:39

McCann DNA has been tested. Apparently Gerry and Kate have given samples. The Galveston police are in touch with the police in Portugal already.

Some "experts" who have studied the currents in the Atlantic ocean extensively have stated that a container dumped into the ocean in the area where Maddie disappeared would reach the gulf of Mexico in that time frame. They are testing others and have a lot of leads. Personally I don't think it could be Maddie but you never know.

Donnie, even if it is appalling journalism it isn't half as bad as the Sun, Daily Express, The Mirror etc.. The picture was a police sketch of what they think the girl MAY have looked like to help jog the memories of people who may have known her and not seen her in awhile.

LyraSilvertongue · 25/11/2007 20:44

Annemayes, you think that story is better written than the Sun, Express and Mirror? Have you ever read a newspaper?

expatinscotland · 25/11/2007 20:47

she's wearing a Target brand top.

i don't think she's come from very far.

she may well have died naturally, too.

it's anyone's guess just now.

LyraSilvertongue · 25/11/2007 20:49

I think the chances of it being Madeleine are extremely slim.

AnneMayesR · 25/11/2007 20:53

Yep.

I read lots of newspapers from all over the world quite frequently and studied journalism at school.

Sometimes I also check out The Sun etc..just for a laugh. The problem I have with the Brit tabloids is the constant lying.

The article posted on this thread was not meant to be a straight news story (i.e. inverted pyramid style) but a feature type of style which can be confusing. Yeah I just looked at it again.... it is done in perfect circle. So basically it was done as a feature and not a straight news story. It was a long time ago that I studied this stuff though.

Anyway I think that they are pretty sure of the identity of the little girl and are just waiting for DNA to back them up so they can make arrests.

AnneMayesR · 25/11/2007 20:55

Well some are speculating that target cherokee tops are also sold at Tescos here in the UK. I don't think it is her either. I think it is that Riley Sawyers girl but there are a lot of people who think she is Maddie. It is heartbreaking anyway.

LyraSilvertongue · 25/11/2007 20:58

Well, if it was written as a feature (and that's not obvious given that it's in the Top Stories section) then I'll let them off
I do see some appalling writing coming out of the states though (I have the monitor the Associated Press wires at work, which is a thankless task).

expatinscotland · 25/11/2007 20:59

they don't sell the same products here, Anne.

it's the same label, but not the same stuff.

Target also has a number of other brands not sold here, like Xhileration.

Cherokee is also sold in teh US in other shops besides Target, which is actually part of a chain or stores held by a huge, multi-national conglomerate.

Ozymandius · 25/11/2007 21:17

was reported in UK weeks ago, and no, it's not Madeleine.
