N&N has been full for weeks (I found an EDP story about them being too full dated 5 November). The hospital has been near capacity since it opened, big controversary at the time it was built because of how it didn't seem likely to meet projected demand. Plus they have funding problems, may be exacerbating things.

I know someone supposed to go in on Friday to terminate a pregnancy for severe disabilities, I hope she's not asked to delay .

The number of times that the N&N Maternity Unit closes, making other units in the 'area' cope with N&N's inabilty to do so is disgusting.

Expectant mothers are expected to travel to either Kings Lynn, Great Yarmouth or Bury St Edmunds, without regard for whether they are in established labour, bleeding etc.

N&N's policy to close their doors is risible, except for those poor mothers involved, and for the other maternity units who do not have a 'closed' policy, and subsequently are expected to catch the fall out from the N&N's closure policy, irrespective of how busy they themselves may be.

I think this was the all-too predictable result of forcing them to build a new PFI hospital with fewer beds. Expensive way to build and run hospitals - but means the money doesn't appear as government borrowing so Gordon's OK. Plus all the drastic NHS cuts last year mean community services and beds have been savaged, so little support for patients who could actually be looked after outside hospital.

There are trusts with PFI deals that have basically been bankrupted for ever - no way of recovering. Madness.

And they have the audacity to call it improvement of sevices?

I' sure a straw poll of people in and around Norwich would suggest that they were happier and bettered served byt the old hospital
