In the Times today. My personal favourite bit, referring to Truby King:

"This is why British children are at the mercy of wicked old bats espousing the half-baked theories of a man who also did not believe in higher education for women (though Verity does appear to be following his advice to the letter there)"

Oh he's great.

I was reading about Truby King the other day - apparently he was fervently in favour of breastfeeding but saw how it took up the mother's time, hence the 4-hourly feeds thing - it was to discipline and free up the mother, as much as anyhting. Apparently he died discredited - makes you wonder what on earth C4 were thinking of, really. I am guessing their research in to TK was zilch.

Oh, really? Damn, I am feeling a bit sorry for him now. Although you'd think if he was against higher education for women he'd have been all in favour of them using up as much time as possible breastfeeding, wouldn't you?

I agree, Ch4 are the people I'm most disappointed in. In terms of this program, obv, rather than the whole of life.

I am quite keen to get a biography of him.

I agree about C4. FGS, if I could find out one little factlet without even trying, who knows, they could actually have found something interesting to make a programme about if they had done any research whatsoever instead of the farcical path they chose to follow.

I read the NSPCC want to ban TV makers from using babies and children in programmes like these - I think we'd all be better off without them TBH ! The only one I used to like was The House Of Tiny Tearaways, but you could see that as exploitation too. All the others now are just faked, and dangerous.
