Born Spongers

I was told about this story by DH who saw it in the paper at his work. This is typical of some of the families around here - living off benefits without shame.

Read it here

One of my neighbours and friends is on disability and is worried sick that she is seen as a sponger. Why should she worry when people like this seem to have no intention of working when there is no reason that they shouldn't be.

DH is not in the best paid job but we get by but it shouldn't be that those who don't work get more than those who are trying their best.

Maybe I am being to harsh but it does make me so angry.

twoifbythesea, it makes you sick doesnt it? we do have a back up plan if they do stop dh IB, as dd2 has been awarded high rate dla care, he can claim carers for her (i get it for dd1). it wuld mean a cut in benefits but if it keeps him alive then i dont care.

Blossomhill, thanks x

mieow · 03/11/2004 22:53

I do realise that I am only using the benifit system as it should be used, not a long term thing, just to help us while times are bad, not as an income for us to live on all the time!!!

blossomhill · 03/11/2004 22:54

Mieow - Take it as long as you need it. You are a genuine case and that is what it is there for. You have 2 children that need caring for and that is a full-time job in itself isn't it?

misdee · 03/11/2004 22:56

i couldnt do it mieow. i look at your calender in horror some days. tho i think u have done the same some months at mine.

mieow · 03/11/2004 22:57

innit?!! I have just been told that DD1 has been approved for respite, I have been asking for help for 2 years!!! I had PND after all my kids, and really could have done with the help then but the SS decided that because of Dd1s age, they couldn't help us.
Bit worried tonight, have to take DD1 for her MMR booster tomorrow!!

mieow · 03/11/2004 22:58

off to GOSH next week, misdee, AGAIN!!

blossomhill · 03/11/2004 22:58

Why are you worried mieow? Sorry if that sounds a silly question

mieow · 03/11/2004 23:00

coz she was diagnosed with CP just after her first MMR, plus she is very strong and I don't think I will be able to hold on to her while they do it......
I'm only 4ft 11, and slightly built

blossomhill · 03/11/2004 23:01

Can't someone go with you?

misdee · 03/11/2004 23:01

i cant. her dd1 will hurt me and i am pregnant. how about mum? is she available tomorrow?

mieow · 03/11/2004 23:03

DH will be looking after DD2 plus he is looking at my mums car stero tomorrow morning (something wrong with it) And there is noone else!
{whispers} unless Misdee wants to come with me!! hehe

mieow · 03/11/2004 23:03

I'll ask mum!

mieow · 03/11/2004 23:04

or I'll get one of the HV to hold her!! evil

misdee · 03/11/2004 23:05

mieow, i also have phobia about needles, i have to take my dd1 for hers at some point and i am dreading it. dd2 hasnt even had her 1st mmr yet, as her vomiting appears to have stpped for now, might take a chance and get her done soon. if she starts projectile vomiting again afterwards for months at a time thats it!!

blossomhill · 03/11/2004 23:05

Goo dluck for tomorrow mieow
I hate injections. My dd has special needs and anything like that is a chore but I always find it easier if I take dh with me. She behaves for him for some reason.

TwoIfBySea · 03/11/2004 23:07

Okay so they threaten to take away your IB, causing genuine claimants as yourself to worry. Causing stress and depression. FFS!

I have signed on before for a few months and each time I went into the DSS office I heard all those sob stories over giros going missing etc. etc. Usually I would then see the same person coming out the bookies. I was desperate for work so joined an agency and did temp work until something permanent came up.

I bet those I saw in the DSS office all those years ago are still there, telling the same lies.

Mieow I will say this only once so listen carefully. You have nothing to be ashamed of at all! You should be getting every penny as you deserve it with all you have been through my heart goes out to you as I think people like you are so brave dealing with all that every day! Same goes to you Misdee. So stop justifying yourselves, you don't need to at all!

I didn't realise that BH,, what her diagnosis?

blossomhill · 03/11/2004 23:08

Speech and language disorder and ADHD.

mieow · 03/11/2004 23:11

SAL is a arse innit? DD1 has severe SAL problems and although she is getting better, I still struggle to understand her. She did turn round and say to me the other week "DD2 is my best friend" bless, made me feel like crying

mieow · 03/11/2004 23:12

Twoifbysea, ok I won't anymore

blossomhill · 03/11/2004 23:12

Moments like that are really precious aren't they?
Dd is in a mainstream school with an attached language unit so thankfully she gets the help she needs.

mieow · 03/11/2004 23:13

TIBS, did you realise that Misdee is my sister!!??

mieow · 03/11/2004 23:14

DD1 has just be moved out of her special unit at nursery, they felt that because she is going to mainstream school in Jan. they had to get her used to it.
