Shop Out to Help Out...here we go again

I would like to know what people think about this as it’s really annoyed me. After the Eat Out To Help Out scheme a group of independent retailers want a SO2HO scheme running Monday to Wednesday and a half price offer with the government (I.e. all of us) footing this discount. Few points below:

  1. I don’t think people will need encouraging to browse in and buy things from independent retailers, if anything they are likely to enjoy a surge in demand with people being pent up for so long.
  2. Would the SO2HO save any jobs in smaller shops as surely this is one of the aims of such a scheme.
  3. A Monday to Wednesday scheme would, as was the case for EO2HO scheme, just mean pushing all the shoppers into the shops in a tighter time window each week, meaning more risk of transmission.

Yes, it would be a major boon to independent retailers who have been forced to close for so long but from an economy perspective I don’t think it makes sense. If retailers have survived this long their chances are only going to get better when lockdown lifts.

Do you have a link? Sounds like a logistical nightmare, tbh, therefore not likely to get off the ground.

That'll never happen.

I can't think of any independent shops I'd be happy to see supported that way.

Primark, theatres, and the cinema are what I'm waiting for.

Oh dear me Rishi and co you do have short memories. Told us that the November lockdown was to enable Christmas to go ahead within reason then pulled the rug just days before when many had already spent on presents and food for a Christmas which then didnt happen for many.

So people were conned into spending money on something that that didnt happen............money they could have saved for this.
Should have thought of this before!!

This has absolutely nothing to do with Rishi. This is retailers trying to get the government to give them some money. There is no indication that the government will do so.

so they want to encourage shops to be rammed for the sake of 'up tp ten pounds'
