Discussing child and hospitals.

So far we've had someone say as children in schools have masks and SD they must remain open for their MH.

11 minutes in and already there's false facts 🤦‍♀️

I liked Marr how he was jumping and barking on Bojo.
But sadly Bojo knows his waffle and was ready to reply his rubbish.

Hmmph · 03/01/2021 10:09

Didn’t he say that we might need more restrictions in a couple of weeks?

PamDenick · 03/01/2021 10:12

Didn't the sign off feel like AM was saying, "Next week I'll be talking to Keir Starmer (and under his breath… our next Prime Minister..)"

bartymao · 03/01/2021 10:14

@Hmmph

Didn’t he say that we might need more restrictions in a couple of weeks?
He'll let schools go back, it'll all go horribly wrong, they will close and he will blame parents for letting children mix out of school. If he closes them now he will have to take responsibility.
FamilyOfAliens · 03/01/2021 10:15

I had to stop watching when Johnson started smirking while he was talking about vaccines.

He’s despicable.

Randomrebel · 03/01/2021 10:16

Schools aren’t safe it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work it out.

I am CEV and WFH and we have been letting our year 11 and year 12 DC go to school for the sake of their education and DD’s MH. But I have been worried every day they come home from school.

We didn’t mix households before and haven’t mixed at Christmas or NYE unlike many families and households who I have seen and heard have had teens round (as they are friends at school and can’t just walk around in the cold can they!!). And have heard of those with primary aged kids meeting up together indoors and organising playdates because little X likes to see his/her friends and they are friends at school!!! So the affect of this is compounding the difficulties schools will face if they go back in January.
@itsgettingweird that’s disgraceful, are you in tier 4? What are your school saying about going in tomorrow?

All I can say is remember this at the next election (not saying you voted for your current MP) get involved in getting them out.
My ds is in college. They can do blended learning as per sept guidance. They advised pupils they'd be online 4-11th and haven't updated.
They will be online until 18th at least and may or may not start until 11th.

My school is SS. We don't have same risks as we function at KW and vulnerable levels as an institution due to needs of children.
Our HT has asked us to inform her if we are doing section 44 walkout and will inform us if anything changes.

I support primary and secondary teachers and education staff. I wouldn't work in their conditions.

Gav and our MP were in ds college at beginning of year Smile

@AaronPurr

SAGE scientist as good. Why aren’t they listening to them?

They are listening to SAGE, but only when they're saying what they want to hear.

SAGE says the R rate is down - GOV happy to parrot this.

SAGE says schools should shut - GOV la la la la did someone say something.

SAGE have not suggested school should be closed! See below document...

assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/948617/s0998-tfc-update-to-4-november-2020-paper-on-children-schools-transmission.pdf

Bumble that documents from November with the previous lockdown.

Sage have changed their advise in light of the new strain.

No it isn't. It was updated on the 17th December.

Sage have changed their advise in light of the new strain.

SAGE Document, Paragraphs 10, Dec 22nd

It is not known whether measures with similar stringency and adherence as Spring, with
both primary and secondary schools closed, would be sufficient to bring R below 1 in the presence of the new variant.

peridito · 03/01/2021 11:08

SAGE Document, Paragraphs 11, Dec 22nd

 1. It is highly unlikely that measures with stringency and adherence in line with the measures in England in November (i.e. with schools open)would be sufficient to maintain R below 1 in the presence of the new variant. R would be lower with schools closed, with closure of secondary schools likely to have a greater effect than closure of primary schools. It remains difficult to distinguish where transmission between children takes place, and it is important to consider contacts made outside of schools.
peridito · 03/01/2021 11:16

so... not known v.^highly unlikely*

way to go in hedging your bets SAGE ,we can all pick our quotes and everyone is happy.

Redbirds · 03/01/2021 11:18

I was disappointed in how passive Marr was today. He could have nailed Boris but just let him waffle.
Marr seemed to wake up when discussing Scottish independence - the difference was marked. Perhaps he was instructed to give Boris an easy ride??

itsgettingweird · 03/01/2021 14:50

Apologies bumble not how how I missed that but as it in the title 🤦‍♀️

What I have seen they have still made a slight change since then in their stance.

Will be interesting to see the outcome of this.
