Taking their scooters across a motorway. I didn't hear the whole report. They were 6 and 7. I cannot begin to imagine what they were doing on a motorway??

so sad, there have been so many tragedies this week.

3littlebats · 25/10/2007 10:21

I can't find any reference to it - I just caught the tail end of the item on the radio.

Hulababy · 25/10/2007 10:22

Very sad. Seems they had been reported missing a little earlier.

MascaraOHara · 25/10/2007 10:23

I caught this on the radio, it's awful.. so young with motor scooters, crossing a motorway FFS.. and agree re. poor drivers.

ConnorTraceptive · 25/10/2007 10:25

Carmenere · 25/10/2007 10:26

Poor kids, poor families and poor, poor drivers

Piffle · 25/10/2007 10:29

they'll be so many feeling the guilt too. very sad

SSSandy2 · 25/10/2007 10:31

OMG

WendyWeber · 25/10/2007 10:42

motor scooters????

I read this and felt so sick and sad for the families, all the drivers who were there at the time and the police having to sort it out.

WendyWeber · 25/10/2007 10:43

"We had numerous 999 calls from drivers on the motorway to say that they had seen these two boys with their scooters on the hard shoulder."

Didn't anybody STOP??????

indiasmum · 25/10/2007 10:46

they would have been going too fast i guess, and apparently its not lit on that stretch of the motorway, they may have only seen them as they went past.

slim22 · 25/10/2007 10:47

Good Lord!

SSSandy2 · 25/10/2007 10:53

whereabouts was this?

Blu · 25/10/2007 10:57

WEndyewber - my thought exactly. I would have stopped immediately and walked back up the hard shoulder to talk to them and take them to safety! Deeply shocking, on many levels.

People think that if you use your mobile you have done what you can do. i bet you anything that in the days before mobiles rather than calling and making it someone else's responsibility, someone would have STOPPED.

I am aghast at human beings, honestly i am.

horrid to say the words but responsibility for those boys safety was not on the drivers who saw them as they drove past.

WendyWeber · 25/10/2007 11:07

Could you have just carried on driving, if you had seen them, piff?

SeaShells · 25/10/2007 11:07

So terribly awful
Poor parents, poor families, poor drivers, and although I think the people who rang to report seeing them really should have stopped, imagine their guilt at hearing this news. So sad for everyone involved in this tragic accident

Blu · 25/10/2007 11:16

Piffle - primarily, no..but in my book a problem becomes the responsibility (in part) of everyone who witnesses it...when people who cannot take responsibility for themselves - i.e children - are involved, anyway.

I would have stopped.

Baffy · 25/10/2007 11:21

I was driving back home from Manchester last night and got caught up in all the traffic from this. I didn't realise what it was until now

That part of the motorway isn't lit so those poor drivers who hit them really wouldn't have had a chance of stopping.

Horrendous

Piffle · 25/10/2007 11:28

it's a motorway, very hard to stop safely - and my point was that they should not have been there in the first place.
The onus lies on the carers thus
yes I am sure stopping and helping them would have prevented their deaths and it would have been wonderful if someone had bene able to. People bothered to ring in, so maybe stopping was simply too difficult

But blame does nothing when two kids have been killed- tis a tragedy for all involved for sure
