I hvae been following this story and its truly shocking. I have one child through the NHS and the other at the Portland so have experienced both. You see occasional threads where people are wondering whether to go for private maternity care. The amount of people who wont hear anything against the NHS is concerning.

People who state they would trust the NHS absolutely and would want medical staff rushing in if there was an issue (as if they are waiting outside the door on the off chance). There are likely to be staff shortages, maybe a junior doctor, etc.

Having experienced both types of birtjh (first under the NHS and then privately) its not that easy a decision to make. There was a high profile case at the Portland nearly 25 years ago which some keep bringing up as a reason to NOT go privately but Shrewsbury has nearly 2000!

I honestly think the NHS need to hang their heads in shame at nearly 2000 cases. What on earth has happened and maybe its because some will not hear a word against the saintly NHS that this sort of thing has gone on for years. We 100% need to hold the NHS to account for this.

I agree that the NHS should be held to account, as should individual staff. It's an egregious record of bad management, bad nursing, wrong priorities, pretty well everything in fact.

I'd like to read the full report. Does anyone know if it's available online?

I saw this on the news ealier today and was shocked. I had heard some things before but the details that have come out today show a complete disregard bordering on contempt for mothers and babies.

How was it allowed to get so bad?
