Good.

Spudlet · 25/06/2020 15:31

Good stuff.

Therollockingrogue · 25/06/2020 15:33

Good

Just seen this as a news alert - what was the offending article? I’m surprised RLB managed to do something that’s a truly sackable offence. I’m no RLB fan at all, I think she was atrocious during the deputy leadership election and she’s awful on women’s rights. But I am surprised she’s done something that’s a straightforward sacking offence.

Good for Labour, the less Corbynite front benchers, the more electable they are IMO.

MrBennsshop · 25/06/2020 15:36

Good. Anti Semitic and misogynistic. Swift action from Keir Starmer.

rainygarden · 25/06/2020 15:37

Very good. I hope Jewish members will feel able to rejoin with KS as leader.

StealthPolarBear · 25/06/2020 15:41

Starmer proving he's not afraid to take action. Good.

MinorArcana · 25/06/2020 15:43

What does being sacked mean in this context?

Is she still an MP but just off the shadow cabinet?

Janeandthedragon · 25/06/2020 15:47

This is exactly what is needed to restore faith. He’s clever and decisive I think.

Spudlet · 25/06/2020 15:55

@MinorArcana He can’t stop her from being an MP as she was elected by her constituents. However she’s no longer a member of the Shadow Cabinet so is now a backbencher only.

For her not to be an MP any more, she’d have to commit some act of wrongdoing that fits certain criteria (such as being jailed for under a year, for example - longer sentences lead to a different process). The Speaker would then start the procedure, and one in ten of her constituents would need to sign a petition agreeing - then there would be a by-election. Details are here: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recall_of_MPs_Act_2015

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 25/06/2020 15:55

Good.

OrribleBloke · 25/06/2020 16:36

My political views are to the right and I can't stand the RLB, but this is absolutely ridiculous. The IDF are a brutal force and here is an example of how they treat the people they opress. It is not anti-semitic to criticise Israel or the training they give to US police.

Is it a sackable offence to criticise the apartheid regime in Israel these days? Or only the apartheid regimes created and funded by USA and UK?
She shared an article which correctly stated that US police officers are sometimes sent to Israel to train with IDF, and that kneeling on the neck of a detainee was a tactic employed by IDF on the palestinians.

We need to make a disinction between Zionism (the political ideaology that seeks to restore an Israeli homeland) and Judaism (which is a spiritual belief). Not all Jews are zionist and not all zionists are jews. Some of the biggest zionists are christians and hold office in US congress, eg, John Bolton, John McCain (Rest in Piss), etc

MinorArcana · 25/06/2020 17:39

Thanks Spudlet

I think there is a general point here about politicians, celebrities, pop stars etc etc tweeting stuff without reading it properly. Drives me mad. In the rush to be on-line and posting all the time the quality switch goes off. Frequently.

Laura Kuensberg (BBC) got it wrong a while back in a rush to get a news story out, Corbyn re-tweeted stuff without reading a full post and had to apologise, Trump does it all the flipping time. All the parties do it, they all get it wrong from time to time.

We all need to slow down, reduce the communications and focus on quality.

After challenge, RBL apologised today for part of the article. She accepted should not have supported the whole article. IMO she should have read it properly beforehand and thought it through properly before she posted, given what role she has.

When I was working in the professional world I checked, rechecked and rechecked every word I put out as I was in a senior role, therefore visible. If in doubt, I didn't hit the keyboard.

And twitter is not a forum for proper debate. Period.

cdtaylornats · 02/07/2020 22:48

Retweeting an anti-semitic tweet didn't get her sacked, disobeying a direct order from her boss to take it down.

Before we rush of on the lies about thousands of American Police being taught to kill by the Israeli Secret Service perhaps read
www.channel4.com/news/factcheck/factcheck-did-israeli-secret-service-teach-floyd-police-to-kneel-on-neck

cdtaylornats · 02/07/2020 22:50

It is an odd definition of apartheid to use it to describe Israel. Arabs are full citizens of Israel and entitled to vote. Describing that as apartheid strikes me as anti-semitic and racist in itself.
