Twinkie · 12/10/2004 12:07

Anyone else read about this - god what is the world coming to - this does them no good - actually makes me want to go out and round up a few foxes and have them ripped to shreds and then gas a few of the little rodents - these people are sick and vile and I hope that they get caught and get the life term in prison that desecration is given!!

thanks that is awful

I don't knowwhere I stand on the animal testing for medical research vs animal rights issue.

But I don't see how robbing a grave helps anybody or any animal.

And apparently they are threatening to send her back to the family in bit by bit aren't they?

Like Waswondering was saying - it's not taken lightly and alternatives are used where possible. Even when I was at uni in the early 90's we wre starting to use computer models of experiments rather than carrying them out in the lab.

It chills me to the bone to read that some people are actually trying to make this out to be not the huge disgusting act that it is.

And stupidgirl I hate to say this but these people are the ones that earn a living pay tax and pay for you to stay at home to home ed eregardless of what they do indirectly you are living off the fruits of their labour!!

what you've just put - I didn't know that sg stayed at home and all that stuff - I shouldn't say this - but no wonder she's got time to phone people up in the middle of the night - arrgghhhh!

Its her personal choice and we have argued many times before - I just think it is often people who stand up for these sort of people who don't mind benefiting from the fruits of their labour!!

I would personally inject any sort fo animal with any sort of drug to test it and even watch it squirm and die not just to save myself and DD and DP but any other member of the human race!! - but then I am a horrid insensitive conservative who thinks terrible right wing thoughts about lots of things!!

We've been on the receiving end of the sort of things that Stupidgirl mentions. I would like to assure her that it does terrify my 3.5y old.

There appears to be absolutely no evidence to provethat animal rights people have taken the body - according to local news today

Report
moomina · 15/10/2004 13:23

Exactly, marialuisa. I think it's astonishing that anyone can make a distinction. And I think 'home visits' a very nasty euphemism...

(But, would just like to say that I am NOT trying to turn this into an attack on a particular MNer. I still think stupidgirl has very good taste in 'Casualty' doctors even if I find her stance on this subject difficult to understand)

Whilst the activists may consider closing UK labs to be a "success", the truth is that we have the most stringent laws in the world governing animal experiments. So these companies then take their work overseas where the likelihood is that more animals suffer.

DH is truly appalled at what is allowed in the U.S.A. It impacts on the validity of the tests as well.

The other big problem is that many animal husbandry types are too scared to do the job they're trained for. Therefore drug companies are having to employ "casual" staff who are untrained and inexperienced.

As a teenager I was pro animal rights. Now I have a family I agree 100% with Twinkie and I wouldnt bat an eyelid at millions of animals being experimented on in order to help humans.
Of course some experiments are worthless but these people are generally working to help the human race and should be left well alone.

Any sort of harrassment is well out of order especially to the persons home.

"I've done home visits and I've done the phoning..."

always wondered why you were called stupidgirl. now I know.

stupidgirl · 17/10/2004 20:30

Oh grow up the lot of you.

Apologies for not being back to this - I've been working.

May I clarify that I haven't been involved in any of this in the recent past. I stopped being actively involved when I was pregnant as I was afraid of getting hurt at protests. I've not doubt that now makes me a hypocrite, right?

The ALF are the more extreme end of the spectrum of protesters, (although there's another group who's name eludes me who are even more militant). I've been involved with the ALF, although there are things they do that I don't believe in, I think they do good work.

Twinkie, anyone who benefits from the welfare state (tax credits, nhs etc) has to accept that not all the money that comes through our Govt is earned in ways we would approve of, I don't think it;s actually aviodable unless you choose to move abroad.

As Gothicmama says we still don't know that it was anything to do with a/r. I know (or knew) the guy who was arrested for it, and he doesn't see, the type - very committed, very passionate, but I wouldn't believe that of him.

Sobernow, please point out to me where I have justified this behaviour? I have condemned it, I find it utterly sickening.

Oh, and your argument about us being dominant seems scarily like the argument a few years ago for slavery and apartheid.

Its sick, there's no excuse for it.

But we write off the rights and feelings of animals just because they don't communicate in our language.

I'm not ashamed of what I have done in the past, whether anyone here agrees with it or not.

Report
acer · 17/10/2004 21:33

Its just a guinea pig, do you really think that justifies digging someones grave up?
