Erm, .... can someone tell me exactly why this is news?

OP posts:
Ulysees · 06/09/2007 07:29

?? It's like being in a Back to the future movie isn't it

beansprout · 06/09/2007 07:37

It's odd isn't it? Then again, there is a lot of vested interest in this link not being established, from both the food industry and from parents who like to use "shut up food".

ghosty · 06/09/2007 07:51

Do they? I had NO idea .... gosh ...

beansprout · 06/09/2007 08:06

Why so sarcastic ghosty? Hardly the most inane comment ever posted on MN!

Kewcumber · 06/09/2007 08:13

I suspect Ghosty's comment is not at OP but at the fact that this is news. I also thought "Really ? How long have we known that then!"

beansprout · 06/09/2007 08:15

Oh, thanks Kew, am feeling a bit pregnancy-sensitive today!! It's not all about me then?!!

Kewcumber · 06/09/2007 08:17

of course alternativley it may well be all about you and I am being unnecessarily kind

purplemonkeydishwasher · 06/09/2007 08:17

I saw this on BBC website and thought: well DUH!!

ghosty · 06/09/2007 08:19

Oh no, Oh no ... I wasn't being sarcastic to you beanie ... oh Nooooooo - I would hate you to think that ...

ghosty · 06/09/2007 08:21

One of the few times I attempt sarcasm on MN and it backfires
I'll get me coat ...

beansprout · 06/09/2007 08:23

S'ok ghosty, I'm having a bad week but I promise I am trying to get over myself!!

alycat · 06/09/2007 08:32

No shit Sherlock! Was my initial thought when I saw it on the news this a.m.

I thought the guy (from food standards I think) would make a great MP, not a single direct answer to Qs. Lots of "from samples of the general population some unders 10s were reported..." No specific figures at all.

FlameBatfink · 06/09/2007 08:34

lmao! Was just coming on to post the same story!

I'm stunned. Would never have suspected artificial crap = adverse effects on body

DD has had a week of poor diet, processed stuff etc. She is tired, keeps having tummy aches, and argues about everything.

As much as it re-enforces my argument that a lot of her issues are diet related, I feel so so bad for letting it happen to her

earlgrey · 06/09/2007 09:13

Discussing on Radio Five Live now.

OP posts:
FlameBatfink · 06/09/2007 09:28

Have emailed

FlameBatfink · 06/09/2007 09:43

Netmums are on there

Hulababy · 06/09/2007 09:51

Heard this on BBC radio this morning and, along with most of MN I suspect, just thought No? Surey not? LOL! And how much have they spent on this research. Bet most mums could have told them that before they began.

singersgirl · 06/09/2007 10:00

DS1 has been eating what he wants over the summer; I've needed to use his inhaler 3 times over the last 6 weeks, and it's normally once a year.

singersgirl · 06/09/2007 10:00

Sorry, meant to say he is usually on an additive-minimal diet.

lisad123 · 06/09/2007 10:44

I was gonna post this too, talk about stating the things we knew years ago DOH!!

pagwatch · 06/09/2007 19:12

Ditto doh !

would just love to post it to all the twatty Doctors who rolled their eyes when I told them that I was changing DS's diet as additives and other stuff made his autism worse. Apparently I was in denial and clinging on to false hope. Twits

Oh and DS2 who was pretty much written off at age 5 is still severe but - as he says "nice and calm and very happy"

Twits

ladylush · 06/09/2007 21:25

Hmm, so contrary to parents observations about changes in their children they dismissed any possibility that additives could influence behaviour. Hmm, maybe then there is the remotest possibility they will change their mind about combined vaccinations one day

scienceteacher · 06/09/2007 21:27

I felt I was in a time warp this morning when I heard this. I though, 20 year old news!

I remember orange squash being on a bad foods list in the 80's. One of my brother's friends went mental whenever he drank it.
