I have just noticed that Italy is on lockdown . Anyone knows what situation is in south of the country ? I’m planning to go to Sicily next month .

I’m in Rome at the moment and it’s pretty much BAU except quite a lot of army presence. Still crowds everywhere (some in masks). Nothing is shut down or anything. Think it’s only the north so Sicily should be fine. Of course that might change in a month.

confusedandsad2019 · 23/02/2020 19:10

We are really worried as we have booked Italy for Easter holidays.Planning to visit Venice,Florence,Rome,Naples,Pompeii. We are thinking of cancelling the holiday altogetherSad.We might not get a refund for the flights. Can only hope that the situation improves.Hope your trip to Sicily goes smoothly x

Two areas in Italy because of 152 cases and 3 deaths

ppeatfruit · 24/02/2020 10:31

Is it me or is the panic a bit OTT ? I mean there are certainly many more people killed by road traffic accidents in Italy, will they put all the cars\motorbikes in quarantine I wonder?

Also normal flu kills approx a thousand people a year too every year.

ppeatfruit · 24/02/2020 10:32

Just in Britain.

HasaDigaEebowai · 24/02/2020 10:35

It isn't OTT. This is a serious virus.

SebandAlice · 24/02/2020 10:38

Ppeatfruit Coronavirus has at least double the death rate of flu. People can spread it while showing no symptoms for up to 28 days. There is no vaccine for it.

20% of people who get it require intensive care and/or oxygen ventilators. All the hospitals are full so what will happen if it spreads like in China. There are certainly not enough oxygen machines to go around.

There are many road accidents in Italy but they don’t all happen at once.

ppeatfruit · 24/02/2020 12:19

Of course there isn't an injection ,it's a virus. It's still a ridiculous over reaction

. You can stop flu by having an alkiline diet ( healthy) to improve your immune system. So radio 2 is incorrect because they are atm saying the opposite to you about number of deaths.

SebandAlice · 24/02/2020 12:59

There is zero medical evidence that an alkaline diet prevents flu. The alkaline diet was created by a fraudster so I would not be relying on that. He was convicted of practicing medicine without a licence and of defrauding cancer patients.

FuckyNel · 25/02/2020 10:45

I’m going to Florence in 2 weeks - the airport are scanning arrivals. I’m not afraid of the virus - I’m more afraid of potentially having to self isolate when home etc.

Watching and waiting at the moment.

Skyejuly · 25/02/2020 10:46

Definitely not OTT when it's spreading like wildfire

BabbleBee · 25/02/2020 11:43

My DH has just messaged to say a colleague he's had significant contact with was in an affected area and has just been sent home to self isolate.

What level does self isolation go to? Does DH need to do the same as a precaution? Where does it stop - I'm not keen on DCs being off school unless completely necessary...

BabbleBee · 25/02/2020 11:50

Found the PHE guidance. Only self-isolation if symptomatic.

ojojoj1 · 25/02/2020 20:09

I will see how things develop My immune system is wrecked with hashi therefure don’t wanna risk it

That was Sunday.
It's Tuesday at there have been 11 deaths and 322 cases. It's incredibly fast-moving.

The thing that worries me about this virus is that we don't have immunity to it. We've never developed antibodies for it. It's new. This is its test run. I haven't been that worried, but I am becoming more so. Because even if you get it and survive, it sounds bloody awful.

CallmeAngelina · 25/02/2020 20:22

I never panic or worry about these things normally.

But I'm scared of this one.

prh47bridge · 26/02/2020 16:37

Of course there isn't an injection ,it's a virus

Don't understand your logic. Scientists are looking to develop a vaccine. That will be an injection. And injections can be used to treat viral infections.

slaveto6 · 27/02/2020 17:43

I'm usually one to laugh at people who panic over these things but this one has got me worried it's not stopping and it's getting closer I'm also worried cos my partner has copd

BabyCJuly · 01/03/2020 21:41

Hello there, I am supposed to be going to Bologna, Italy at the start of April. This is north of Italy. The area hasn’t been affected. I was wondering if there is any details/advice on travelling when pregnant with regard to the Coronavirus. I’m very nervous to fly!

ojojoj1 · 01/03/2020 21:54

I wouldn’t go if I were you to be honest if I was pregnant

The whole Italy is effected by now . I spoke to my friend in Campania and he told me not to move . Over 1000 people infected already in Italy Hmm

Kazzyhoward · 09/03/2020 15:10

366 deaths in Italy due to it now.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-51793619

We're about 2 weeks behind, so we'd better start preparing for widescale closures/disruption, travel cancellations, etc.

ojojoj1 · 11/03/2020 13:21

That’s my thinking exact thinking . I bought soap and hand sanitizers after they started running out in Italy

Meanwhile, in Ireland people are getting with the social distancing in a big way. Shame about the English stag parties that came to Dublin to get ratted and held coronavirus parties on Saturday in Temple Bar. They disgraced themselves and terrified the locals so much that Ireland has banned all pubs and restaurants from opening!!! As one Italian said on Twitter..."An exact copy of the Italian behaviour two weeks ago when our crisis started"
