The actor Derek Fowlds has died, aged 82.

People of my generation will remember him as 'Mr Derek', Basil Brush's sidekick.
Then he was Bernard in Yes Minister/Prime Minister.
Then for many years in Heartbeat.

And an all round nice chap, apparently.

Really sad to see this just now. I am a massive fan of Yes Minister and Yes Prime Minister and he was my favourite character. I have the whole series on Audible so might give them a listen tonight.

He was my 'Mr Derek' too.

Very sad, I liked him in everything he did, especially Basil Brush which was my childhood era. Didn't really watch much Yes Minister, but watched all Heartbeat, and yes, he played a really good character

I know him from Yes Minister. Very good character.

basil Brush was a piece of shit tv but that wasn't his fault.
He was exceptionally good as Bernard, this was the best bit

Well it was good but not so good to post it twice

I remember him as Mr Derek but he will forever be our much loved Bernard in this house of ex civil servants!
