Iran has now admitted downing the Ukrainian airliner ‘accidentally’, however we know that Trump and the Ukraine have a very close relationship.

@SimonJT

They had no option but to admit guilt. The evidence is going to be overwhelming and undeniable, once the international investigators take a look at the wreckage.

Not sure what you mean by 'however we know that Trump and the Ukraine have a very close relationship.' ?

So sad. Those poor people and their families.
Just waved my dd off on a longhaul flight. Not flying over Iran, but will be in Russian airspace.
It is worrying.
I wonder what Putin will have to say.

MotorwayDiva · 11/01/2020 06:35

The next part of investigation should look at why this happened, was it really an accident, commercial planes are much bigger and it was near a commercial airport.

bettybattenburg · 11/01/2020 06:39

It doesn't make sense, they can see on public radar information what the plane was. It flew close to a sensitive building but it was following the flight path set out already.

Imagine if it was a nuclear weapon that they fired 'accidentally'.

And rather reinforces why Iran is seen as a rogue state. In what universe did they think their indignant, strident denials of culpability would hold water?

fastliving · 11/01/2020 11:55

Trumps actions have made Iran trigger happy / given them the excuse to be trigger happy.
There were always going to be consequences to Trumps actions, I don't follow politics, but even I can see that.
We don't know what other consequences are to result from this decision by Trump, we just have to wait and see and hope that things don't escalate even further.

Miljea · 11/01/2020 12:26

In some ways, this massive, embarrassing mistake by Iran might de-escalate things.

I am no fan of Trump but the bloke he got killed was a bastard who had it coming. For all of the chest beating and clothes rending we see on TV there are thousands more Iranians and Iraqis celebrating.

Trump and Ukraine do not have a ‘very close relationship.’

Under Obama, America and Ukraine has a very close relationship.

Since Trump came to power, he has blatantly favoured Russia, which is funding and supplying the rebels in eastern Ukraine.

Zelensky, since he took power in April, has been desperately trying to get a show of support from the US for his efforts to end the war in eastern Ukraine.

But Trump has humiliated him - Zelensky has been threatened with the withdrawal of military aid, hasn’t got the state visit to the White House he wanted, and has instead been embroiled in the impeachment scandal leading to the exposure of his embarrassing phonecall with Trump.

Please. Trumps action was retaliation for thousands of deaths done by this guy sending his troops into Iraq.

Iran’s decision for the Republican Guard to send militias into Iraq targeting and killing over 610 US personnel and thousands of supporting Iraqis is what led to Trumps drone strike.

God I cannot believe I am defending Trump! This what it’s come to and all because I am fond of facts.
