An 11 year old gets killed in Liverpool, and htere has been another shooting in Hertfordshire and what do they do

"Let's leave the story in Liverpool and go straight to New York for Tim Henmans news conference"

Sorry, but am I the only one who thinks the killing of a child and the increase in violence and gun crime in this country should take precedence in the news over a tennis player whose only claim to fame in that he was the only Brit to get to Wimbeldon for long enough, he never even won it!

That's terrible, I don't understand how they could possibly justify that.
As useless as it is, I'm going past the 'oh how awful' and getting really p'd off that guns are so readily available it would seem.

southeastastra · 23/08/2007 16:28

they seem to be playing safe, the shuttle landing with cut to the final minute (suppose columbia had something to do with that) and as for the sausage story - just put in for laughs it seems.

saltire · 23/08/2007 16:32

Yes but why stop what is effectively an important news story to go to one that isn't? They could have just recorded the news conference by Henman and shown it later

Especially considering Tim Henman was always such a lame player who never won anything big.

I mean, he got to the semis in a Grand Slam a few times.

So?

Hardly Pete friggin' Sampras.

TwitmonstEr · 23/08/2007 16:36

or are they trying to pretend that this sort of violent crime isn't really happening?
grrr

TheQueenOfQuotes · 23/08/2007 16:37

"important" to who??? Have there been any new developments in the shooting in Liverpool? Probably not - I should imagine the 6 o'clock news this evening will report pretty much the same as the 1pm news did earlier.

TBH I don't really see why we need constant coverage of these things (sky seems to be worst for it - you get 20 minutes of "top story" and then any other bit of news squashed into the last 10 minutes - everyhour!) who is it benifiting???

Like it or not "Sports News" also comes under sports - and the BBC (among other news stations) prides itself on brining a lot of these things live I don't really see the problem.

Sorry.....

SueBaroo · 23/08/2007 16:39

It's the curse of 24 hour news.

saltire · 23/08/2007 16:40

Well they had arrested 2 teenagers and had the police giving a press conference, so yes I think that's pretty important, and yes the BBC does have a policy to bring sport - or at least some of it live to the viewer, but I still think the shooting of a child is more important than a sports person retiring

to be fair to the bbc there is quite alot of coverage online. i tend to only look at that now.

TheQueenOfQuotes · 23/08/2007 16:43

when I saw the news first thing this morning they'd already arrested 2 teenagers - so what's new??? Why do we have to keep having it OVER and OVER and OVER again (without anything new being added) - and all other news get thrown out of the window???? that IMO is part of the reason why people think the crime has gone through the roof as it gets played over and again on the news!

Hurlyburly · 23/08/2007 16:43

A more pressing concern to me is the apostrophe in your title.

TheQueenOfQuotes · 23/08/2007 16:44

anyhow - I have dinner waiting to be cooked, bottles to be made up and a massive pile of ironing to start tackling

saltire · 23/08/2007 16:45

hurly - don't- I speed type then check it after I press post!

expatinscotland · 23/08/2007 16:46

Does this mean we don't have to be subjected to all those tragedies sitting on 'Henman Hill' as if he were actually going to win anything this year?

Pigs might fly, you know!

saltire · 23/08/2007 16:47

Ooh expat, I never thought of that. That has to be a good thing surely
