News story here

I had to LOL at the monsoon statement. Apparantly, customers haven't been complaining about lead levels in their jewellery. It must be all right then.

Yeah - wearing jewellery CAN KILL.

Christ knows how we manged past the 19th century............

Even more worrying story in today's Sunday Times here

I had no idea the recalls over lead in toys were only sparked by a child's death. And that there were no regulations about lead in children's jewellery. I wonder how many people buying those shoes with toys in the heel have any idea about this?

My feeling is it's the Western brands who are the major offenders here -they must know that if they pay 22p per item the factory owners are going to have to cut corners, both in toy safety but also in conditions for workers. We've stopped manufacturing our own stuff and outsourced it merrily to a country were regulations are full of holes and workers are routinely exploited.

Well Eric, we made it past the 19c, but of course the attrition rate was much higher.
