This is so wrong. Such a waste of money. The move from the existing old hospital was halted just 24 hours , the strategic planning was huge, involving moving existing ICU children, equipment etc. Gross incompetence.

Why did not one single inspector, in the entire process, notice things weren't right?

They were on about building this hospital and winding down the old one 12 years ago when DS1 was in with sepsis.

I thinlk the problems have only beome evident when the building started to get up and running.
Main problem is drainage. The underlying ground has not been adequately secured or stabilised water table/underground streams etc, before building work began. So there is huge seepage from hospital sewage and ground water, flooding basements, electrical equipment etc. Once the building was occupied with several thousand staff and patients using sinks, showers, toilets the problem would magnify.
It is a disaster.

According to the article issues with drainage and ventilation were raised 3 years ago yet they continued to build without resolving them?

Given the issue with Edinburgh schools being poorly built I'd have thought someone would have had the power to demand the issues were rectified before now?

Otherwise what's the point of inspection works?

It's not just the waste. It's the fact that mysteriously, no one will be held to account.

It would have been better for the environment if NHS Lothian had just given IHSL Lothian £150,000,000 as a freebie bonus to just give to it's shareholders anyway. Instead we had to have a pantomime where they pretended to do something for the money ...
