...and hope Aunt is about to re write her will in your favour

Car is no more...unfortunately so are most of dh's tools

Have to give a big thanks to the people of Evesham though. Wow, at one point I was so close but so far. Near the end of my adventure, I was near the town centre but there was a grid lock, so I got out the car to see what was happenning. However adrenalin rang out, and could feel the tears starting. The people of Evesham couldn't have been more helpful, a gentleman on a bike offered cycled to the rescue centre to tell dh I was nearly there, a couple got out their car to put their arms round me and comfort me. I could go on.

It truly was the best of British! Makes me proud to be British, why do we show our best when up against the worst.

In fact not just the Brits, when DH first got flooded he was immediately surroiunded by a group of young Eastern European men. Initially he was intimadated but these young men could not be more helpful if they tried. Pushing the car, looking at engine, helping aunt through the flood to safety.

Although a totally awful disaster it makes you feel a wee bit better about humanity!

Red

I've only just got the chance to log back on.

Thank goodness you didn't try and save them last night. You'd have been in terrible trouble.

I guess I was wrong is saying it wasn't the rivers we needed to worry about!!

They and you are safe that's all that matters.

inlaws have lost their caravan and the belongings they left - apparently the roof is showing. Avon is 5.5metres higher than normal

glad you're all ok RTL

RTL, glad you all made it and hope you've recovered from your terrible journey.

just thought I would tell you my story about the flooding. i live in Harrogate but set of with DH and our 3 kids (twins of 2.8 and baby of 8 months) on Friday afternoon at 1pm to drive to Bristol to stay with friends expecting to get there around 5pm.

At 7pm we were only just on the M5.

At 8 we came off at the Tewkesbury junction (we werent to know......) and by 9.15 were about a quarter of a mile down the road into the town. We stopped at a garage and rang B and Bs and hotels but they were all full. Our friends in Bristol were ringing round for us too and rang to say the only option was a refuge centre put on by the council. I burst into tears at this stage but a man appeared in wellies and asked if we were ok and if we needed any baby food for the baby. DH asked if I could use his loo as I was desperate and I went over and met his wife and she said we should go in and have a cup of tea for an hour and then see what to do.

We all traipsed in and had some tea and she cooked my twins beans on toast and we realised there was nowhere for us to go. The couple were so kind, they told us we could bed down in their granny flat at hte back of their house. The lady's mum would sleep upstairs. So around 11pm we finally got ot sleep.

At 2am they knocked on the door and told us to get out as the water was coming in. One of my twins was about to get soaked as he was sleeping on the floor right next to the wall. We got the kids upstairs and spent the next two hours carrying the couples possessions up the stairs and moving furniture so it didnt get ruined. By the time we had finished the water was probably half way between our ankles and calves. Incredible - I have never experienced anyting like it. Looking out of the window there were people stranded everywhere and firemen with inflatable rafts heading up towards the town. We got a bit of sleep for a couple of hours and after a cup of tea in the morning we waded thorugh the water to try and get to Bristol.

The reason I'm posting this story is that it restored my faith in humanity. I was at the end of my tether, worried sick about my kids and finding somewehre to stay after 8 hours of driving and some complete strangers took us in and helped us. I cant believe they did it and it makes me feel humble. There were people sleeping in their cars - we were some of the lucky ones and I hope that in some small way we helped them back by helping with ethe lifting and shifting when the house started to flood.

I hope that anyone who was affected is ok nad safe and warm tonight. I know I am and I feel really grateful for it.

Some amazing stories coming out of this. and

A friend of ours and his work colleague got stranded on their way home Fri night (Herefordshire/Worcestershire border). They decided to give up when they came across a fire engine stranded in a flood .

Luckily a family in a nearby farm took them in, fed them, gave them wine and a bed for the night.

Hope everyone is ok this morning. It still looks pretty horrific on the news.

Wishing everyone lots of luck....
