With my "new" E111 form (or whatever it's called now) there was an organ donation form. I have been thinking about it for ages, but finally filled out the form and sent it in.

It's great so many people have signed up, but means nothing so long as those surviving the deceased get to make the ultimate decision (or maybe that's for another thread....)

I think that if someone registers on the list then the next of kin should have no say in the matter, sorry!!!

I thought the rules have changed so if you're on the list it doesn't matter what your spuse/relative says? Have I got my wires crossed?

aacording to the uktransplant site the nest of kin has no legal right to overrule the decision of the deceased

I watched that on the edge of my sofa, I was panicking when they removed his heart before the new one arrived...

what about freedom of religion, right to bodily integrity and of course the age old freedom of choice.the day where one has to actively choose to not have their body harvested by the government is a pretty sad day. as far as i was aware my body and it's organs are not the property of the government/hospital/anyone else and as such they should have no power of decision over it.

and what will have happened?why do you think that will have changed my mind? do you think i'm that myopic and self centred that i can only form opinions on social issues when they have affected me?do you think that all my opinions are centred on what would benefit me? you didn't answer one of my arguments, why should the government be able to lay claim to my organs or my body,why should they over-ride my freedom of choice,religion or bodily integrity. what next, will you ban all alcohol and cigarettes to ensure that no organs are damaged or wasted?force mandatory blood donations?

The government don't want your organs. People who are dying NEED organs. If you are dead what good are they to you?
