What's that about then - anyone know? Sky News have it at the bottom of the screen.

BBC are being a bit vague about it

WendyWeber · 14/07/2007 19:41

Ohhhhhhhhhhh - ours was closed today br, with police and everything (and we were all well pissed off, because our Sainsburys closed for a week on Thurs for a refit - DH reckons it was a Sainsburys employee who did the security alert to stop us all shopping at Tesco's!)

WendyWeber · 14/07/2007 19:42

The 11 stores are all in different counties - I wonder if any of the others have local Sainsburys having refits...???

expeLYRAmus · 14/07/2007 19:43

There's no real detail at the moment, which is why the story's a bit vague. we are doing this story at work at the moment.

FioFioJane · 14/07/2007 19:44

ours never closed when sainsburys was having a refit, if that helps?

nearlyheadlessNell · 14/07/2007 19:45

The sky news websits says they think it may be a bomb scare

JARM · 14/07/2007 19:46

apparently it was TESCO who asked all members of the public and staff to leave, surely the police would be the ones to do that if terror threat?!

expeLYRAmus · 14/07/2007 19:46

There's more than 11 stores.

expeLYRAmus · 14/07/2007 19:47

Some witnesses at a store in Scotland said the police told them it was a bomb scare.

bubblerock · 14/07/2007 19:54

Very widespread isn't it?

link to yorkshire post don't think it's any more detailed. definitely bomb threat. tesco must have more customers than other stores.

WendyWeber · 14/07/2007 20:23

That's the PA report, cu - I've just googled news on it and all the sources are using the same report ("at least 11 stores" even though the BBC now say 13)

WendyWeber · 14/07/2007 20:23

(We were also told locally that it was a power cut)

expeLYRAmus · 14/07/2007 20:25

It's 14 stores now.

edam · 14/07/2007 20:27

odd timing, wasn't someone sent down for trying to firebomb Costcutters or Kwiksaves or something, yesterday?

Has to be bomb scares surely? They have been shutting off the surrounding streets. Not a "power failure" then

krispie · 15/07/2007 20:20

From BBC news:

"Martin Jacklin was shopping in a Tesco store in Hucknall, Notts, when shoppers were told to take their shopping to the tills and leave at about 1415 BST.

He said: "Me, the wife and the children were in there, basically just doing a normal shop and it came over the tannoy that we were asked to leave, basically, go to the cashier, pay for your groceries and then leave"

WTF? There had been a bomb scare and Tescos STILL wanted their customers to purchase their goods before evacuating??? FFS!!!!

chacha3 · 15/07/2007 20:27

oh gosh doesnt sound too good
