Cor.

hana · 13/07/2007 17:01

no, it will go to appeals and he'll serve bare minimum
guilty was the only verdict tho

while we're on about columnists, I used to loathe Barbara Amiel's in MacLeans (Cdn weekly mag)

10 and serves 3

motherinferior · 13/07/2007 17:10

PMSL at Lady A doing prison visits. (Sorry, I know that is Mean and Glorying in the Misery of Others, have had knackering day and do not feel charitable.)

donnie · 13/07/2007 17:59

isn't he pretty ancient though? I'm sure he'll do an 'Ernest Saunders' and use his age and supposed ill health ( which miraculously improves once out of the slammer) as well as top lawyers to escape his full punishment.

Don't these types always?!

edam · 13/07/2007 18:02

Wow. The coverage of the trial I'd seen suggested the prosecution weren't doing very well.

I'm afraid I can't dredge up much sympathy for him. Or her.

Maybe he'll get Bush to issue a pardon, like whathisface with the silly name did.

cornsilk · 13/07/2007 18:08

wHO IS HE AND WHAT DID HE DO?

bagsundereyes · 13/07/2007 18:11

Brilliant .

Can't wait to see some footage of Babs' crestfallen face.

He's only in his early sixties I think, so I'm not sure "ill-health" can get him out of jail. Bring on the orange jumpsuit.

aloha · 13/07/2007 18:13

I think in the UK you can get away with 'oooh, I'm a bit poorly' but the US is brutal. He'll be banged up alright. Only personal friends of the President get away with anything they like

Mind you, I suppose he might be a chum of Bush. Anything is possible in those circles.

Conrad Black

aloha · 13/07/2007 18:14

'conservatively 15-20' according to R4.

OP posts:
donnie · 13/07/2007 18:15

good! that may well sound uncharitable but let's face it he is a greedy bastard and a thief of titanic proportions.

Rantmum · 13/07/2007 18:15

Couldn't have happened to nicer bloke...

policywonk · 13/07/2007 18:15

I did enjoy that CCTV footage of him removing files from his office, secret squirrel-style. I'd knock ten years off his sentence just for the amusement this has afforded me over the last year or so.

WideWebWitch · 13/07/2007 18:19

Blimey.

Rantmum · 13/07/2007 18:23

My father's career was on the receiving end of a CB hostile takeover in the 80's which left him redundant with 2 small children. My father's abiding memory is the sheer ruthlessness with which it was conducted We have no sympathy for the man in our family...

canadianmum · 13/07/2007 18:25

the man is a crook, throw away the key!

funnypeevesculiar · 13/07/2007 18:26

roffle - came on here thinking it was another HP thread...

Note to self Sirius & Conrad Black are not the same

moondog · 13/07/2007 21:16

It's splendid isn't it?
What a come down for poor ole Barb.

OldieMum · 14/07/2007 00:00

I was driving the car when I heard. Nearly crashed it as I shrieked with joy. Andrew Neil on Newsnight commented that this reflects a real determination in the US to nail big-time white-collar crime and that he would probably have got away with it had he been put on trial here.

Quiddaitch · 14/07/2007 00:07

lololol. great news.

hatjam · 14/07/2007 20:18

hope this isn't going to be dressed up as white-collar crime when it comes to sentencing, the way they did with the guinness trial. it's theft and the victims deserve justice.

Piffle · 14/07/2007 22:19

Was so releived he got done
What an asshole of a man

Now what about his wife hmmmm
