i belive jabs should be spaced out. i'd hate to have as many jabs in the space of a yr that wee babies have.

donnie · 10/09/2004 15:12

" I realise they are money making globalised corporate machines, greedy and lustful, but on the whole they do benefit us". Do you actually think this Goodkate? I seem to recall a recent problem with the deliberate witholding of drugs to treat HIV in African countries by certain pharmacos because of the fact that the countries in question (the poor ones, naturally)couldn't pay top dollar.I wonder if they agree with you.I could cite many other examples but really don't see the point .You also refer to what Jimjams and other posters here know AS FACT as a ' belief' , which implies it is not necessarily true and / or merely a matter of opinion which is both insulting and arrogant. Just because your own children may have been sweet and dandy on the vaxes does not mean all others are too.I am a responsible mother with a child who had a bad reaction to the 2/3/4 month vaxes and who subsequently went for single measles , mumps etc. Wild horses would not induce me to pump a 5 in 1 into any future child of mine.I know too much and yes, I do have the interests of my children at heart.

donnie · 10/09/2004 15:18

edam's earlier post on the deliberate cover up over Seroxat says it all, IMO about the lengths the pharmaceutical cos are prepared to go to hide or suppress evidence of faulty or harmful drugs.Ditto Jimjam's/Aloha's point about the Gulf war multi vax syndrome. And while we are on the subject, if the thermerosil jabs were ' perfectly safe' as the govt has shouted from the rooftops, why have they just been withdrawn?

Blimey, that was a bit strong. Do you see me as the devil incarnate?

Look I do know all this, I'm not stupid OK.

I just like to look at the big picture and the overall effect on what these things are for?

I do not believe our government would intentionally do things to harm vast swathes of its population. I truly believe that and if we don't where does that leave us? This is all quite sad really.

but it isn't vast swathes of the population - it is a very small percentage of the population. That is the point. A small, young and virtually silent little group which cannot defend itself. That is why the deliberate muddling of evidence - which I honestly do think it is - has been moderately successful. Just put it down to the rantings of silly old parents, what do they know?Nobody is saying you are the devil incarnate at all goodkate, but you cannot simply reject the close observations and conclusions of concerned parents as a ' belief ' which may or may not be accurate - give them some credit why don't you?

goodkate · 10/09/2004 15:42

Where do you get this idea that I read the party line. You have no idea what I read or what I research.

I'm making decisions based on my own experiences and the knowledge I have gained over a number of years. I'm a nosey old bag who asks thousands of questions wherever I go, especially to do with my children. I stand up for my rights and am firm when I think things are unjustified.

I have gathered enough information to make what I believe is good decision. I accept the bad things that have happened and could happen. My children are no more nor no less important than anyone elses.

Just sticking my head up over the parapet here to say I'm delighted to hear about your ds2, Jimjams.

donnie · 10/09/2004 15:53

hey twiglett, I like it when you flounce.....

goodkate · 10/09/2004 15:59

Most decisions are based on the financial implications, corporate or governmental. I'm as cycnical and suspicious as the rest of us of both, and research is only as good as the researcher and its financial backers, they will make the results say whatever the outside influences want.

But in this case I'm trying hard not to be because I truly deep down believe in the big scheme of things to be vaccinated is better than not to be. I'm sure many of you see things differently but thats a good things too because it keeps debate in the public eye.

"To be or not to be" is a damn provocative question .

Jimjams · 10/09/2004 16:08

No no no goodkate. I'm not basing my decision on beliefs. I'm basing it on the Colombia paper (oh look fancy that glutamate receptors in the brain are screwed up in those mice- funny that ds1 was taken off MSG and certain glutamate forms 2 years ago).

The thing is I'm not extrapolating my experience to everyone. I said in my last post that thimerosil was far more dangerous to my children than yours- most children do cope with it- most children get rid of it. At no stage have I said that vaccination itself is a bad thing, and I have repeatedly said it is safe for the majority- even 5 in ones- even once full of thimerosil- they will be safe for most. You do seem to think that as it has been fine for your children it is fine for all, and that's the main thing I can never get my head around from your posts.

Jimjams · 10/09/2004 16:09

first paragraph a bit cut short- and all the other research that condones thimerosil and also what I saw happen to my son.

Jimjams · 10/09/2004 16:12

Thanks suedonim- just as well really - as the specialist SALT he was referred to has refused to see him (needs a referral from a consultant paed apparently) and he has been on the community therapists waiting list for 9 months (and have been told he won't be seen before next year).

Mind you- touching as much wood as I can and feeling very much like I tempting fate- ds1 appears to be earwigging conversations. His SALT is very excited. I'm trying not to be.......

Actually, I think you've touched on the biggest problem with this government across the board, jimjams - they have a one size fits all approach in lots of areas (health, education, policing) which just doesn't work in the real world

Sorry... topic drift into politics there...

Won't your child get 3 times the amount of mercury if they have single vaccines rather than MMR or doesn't it work that way? Just curious!

Jimjams · 10/09/2004 16:29

Very very true Georgina, and there is enough known about vaccinations to know that we are not all created equal. For example (in case of terrorist attack) If you have someone in the house with eczema then NO-ONE in that household should receive a smallpox jab as it could prove fatal to the person with eczema. And of course the dtp is contraindicated for children with epilepsy - although epilepsy is somewhat difficult to dx in an 8 week old- (and what are they doing about that and the 5 in 1 anyway- or is that not contraindicated??? I have no idea!).

They like to be a control a bit this govt don't they and make all the decisions.

As for ds1 well he's always been a nosy parker- if you ever are lucky enough to live next door to us then he'll be peering over your fence all the time - but it seems to have occured to him that when people speak they use words- rather than just produce streams of sounds. So when we're talking now if he hears a word he understands he says "bye bye that word" so talking to ds2 about nursery and suddenly you'll hear "du dye nahee" shouted from another room. It really is a big breakthrough, he's actually listening rather than switching off.
