Nutritious meals at school?

Is it really that hard to ensure children have nutritious meals at school?

The thought or organic or local produce is great but surely unprocessed is an absolute starting point?

But you also have to give them what they want. At our son's school, they used to do a wide range of foods, including chips, sausage rolls, etc and the dining hall was always queued and full. Then they took away all the "unhealthy" stuff and now most kids take in packed lunches instead and the dining hall is half empty. Very few sixth formers stay to eat school meals - most go into town to Greggs & McDonalds! They'd be far better to have made the "unhealthy" stuff a bit healthier, rather than scrap it completely, i.e oven chips instead of fried, lower fat sausage rolls, etc.
