I heard yesterday that Tesco are going to close their instore bakery’s, not it seems they plan on closing all their counters in 90+ stores (fish and deli counters) in a bid to save money.

I shop with Tesco but I’m not sure I want too anymore, most of their stores are now full of self check outs to save employing staff and now this. Are other supermarkets likely to follow meaning more job losses?

I refuse to use self check outs as I feel people’s jobs are at risk the more we use them plus I actually like a real person to scan my shopping, the same with meat and fish counters, it’s nice to select your food and quantity whilst talking to a real person.

Ours has vastly reduced its range of goods and even put on new shelving with less space for produce. Them stopping their Tesco direct service was annoying too as I used to order school wear from it. It's one of our nearest supermarkets though (The other is a smallish Morrison's and then you have to go several miles to get to any others)

Yes, I miss Tesco direct, I used to save my points to use to buy stuff for Christmas but now there’s not much other than food to use them in.

I have several friends who work for Tesco, one works in the bakery and the other on the deli so there jobs are likely to be gone.

I do prefer Morrison’s but our nearest one is quite far away.

The so-called "fresh" counters in supermarkets have been a joke for a while now. The only in-store bakery I use is our big Sainsbury these days - used to use the Morrisons one a lot in the past but then they started selling "fresh" stale bread, fruited scones without fruit, etc., so I've not bought anything for a while.

For meat, we're lucky to have a proper independent butchers shop which is absolutely excellent. Shame people deserted them and went to supermarkets instead - use it or lose it!
