How does everyone feel about travelling on tubes, trains, buses and airplanes this week?

Do you have a journey tomorrow/this week, and how do you feel about it?

I know people will say that it is safer than ever with the increased security/scrutiny. I am due to travel by tube across London and back tomorrow, and to be perfectly honest, I wish I could stay local until everything has calmed down.

Can't think about it or I wouldn't go - got to work, none of us have a choice do we, so just going and not letting it into my head.

The hardest commute for me was day after the London bombings, everyone was secretly scared but off we went in defiance.

Going to London on Tuesday. Will still go, unless my company advises otherwise. Probably the safest place to be at the moment TBH

I'm no longer a Londoner, but when I was I always traveled by tube, going into the West End etc. Throughout the IRA campaigns and after 7/7.

I will not be dictated to by terrorists. End of.

Dh was supposed to fly back into Glasgow on tomorrow, but his company are trying to book a train for him because of the delays and queues at the airports not becuase of the threat as such. He had staff flying from glasgow to london yeasterday and they were held up for ages and couldn't get near the airport.

All will be OK once I get one uneventful tube trip out of the way. But I hate going throught the barriers and down the escalator the first time after a big event/scare. The first trip is always the most difficult.

DD and I are due to fly to America in 2 weeks. I will be glad of the increased airport security, but imagine checking in/security clearance and screening will be extra lengthy due to what has happened over the past days.

dh has to travel on by train/underground on a daily basis and I would be lying if I said it didn't worry me a bit. but...

he could just as easily get hit by a buss crossing the road, and yet I don't worry about him crossing roads, iyswim.

If we let the terrorists stop us travelling then they have won. They don't need to do anything then because they have already won, and we're better than that, are we not?

The fact that the two bombs were found and defused on Friday should be encouragement to all of us, it shows that people are vidulant and will now be even more so, and tbh I think Saturday's "attack" on Glasgow airport was bloody amaturish to say the least.

Im afraid there's no point worrying really. If it's going to happen to any of us then it's going to happen whether we worry or not, but if we let it beat us then the terrorists have won and I refuse to let that happen.

DH works just off Oxford Circus. A good friend works in Heathrow. We were all having fun in a nightclub in the West End on Saturday night. Nobody I know has changed any plans over this business. We don't think or worry about any terrorist threats because a/there is no point and b/DH has far more chance of being killed by some homicidal motorist knocking him off his bike.

(Especially as, let's face it, these particular terrorists have been really quite rubbish at killing people so far.)

TBH as a Scot with no need to be in London I've always felt that these things didn't happen up here and I'll just keep away from London but since the attack on Glasgow airport at the weekend I've started to feel that unless you are prepared to become a hermit you've just got to get on with life.

I guess it depends on where you live and your normal routine. I've often had jobs where I've had to use public transport and tbh if you thought about the risks, you'd never go anywhere (bit like not ever eating out in case someone spits in your food whilst preparing it). Why should these jokers keep us under virtual house-arrest? .

imagine the mumsnet posts in iraq, palestine, afghanistan assumming computers, electricity, infrastructure, homes, wires etc all worked

this is nothing compared to the abject daily suffering inflicted in our name

No different to last week. It was a risk then, its a risk now and until we change our interventionist policies in arab states will continue to be a risk.

Went to the Diana concert yesterday, sure that the security would be really tight. Still felt 'aware' of an increased threat.

I'm due to stay in London with ds and dd on Wednesday to Friday this week, fitting in touristy things inbetween hospital visits. I know I should stick to my plans, but....

if you worry you die, if you don't worry, you die, so why worry?

I travelled to work by tube this morning and wasn't really worried. DH drives a London bus and will be working on 7/7, he's not worried. BIL and niece are coming over from Ireland in a couple of weeks time and we are still going to do all the things in London we have planned.

doesn't bother me at all. more likely to die driving around in my own car by hitting another car or a tree.can't do a thing about it. life goes on.

Have to go to work and have to use the tube to get there. No point worrying over it really. Carry on as normal!

No point in worrying about this really... I have to get to work and the tube is the only feasible way. In any case I don't think we should be letting a few nutters disrupt our lives more than possible.

If your number is up, it is up. I am far more worried about the increase in knife and gun violence in London these days.
