The suspect bomb in London.... but this comment really annoyed me. It feels vaguely racist and yet I am not sure it is..

All options, including the Irish, are open at this stage," said the source.

Brilliant Desi.

Only you could come up with that

So now you've got and made an ENTIRE nation and everyone in it at target of racist hatred. Even 30 years later, and continue to believe that an entire nation and everyone in it is deserving of being portrayed as racist hatemongers.

Do you feel this way of all the poor folks stuck in places like Afghanistan, Iraq, Palestine, the Darfur, etc., because they're too busy trying not to starve to death instead of capturing terrorists?

You really are a piece of work, DC.

southeastastra · 29/06/2007 20:49

what happened when you were 5 dc do you want to elaborate? sorry ot

expatinscotland · 29/06/2007 20:50

Bree.

Desiderata · 29/06/2007 20:51

I think we should leave DC alone. He's gone through stuff that I haven't. I know he will make many people angry with his posts, but pain is pain, and it's rarely eloquent. He's been a victim of prejudice in the same way that others are. Let's not be cruel, or blind ourselves to other people's pain. Please.

Any way, I'm leaving this thread now, to think up a murder mystery game that will divert us all.

edam · 29/06/2007 20:52

The naively romantic view of the IRA as a noble struggle against oppression always pissed me off, Domini. I don't appreciate gangsters who threaten to kill me and mine. And you are right, they tortured and killed plenty of Catholics.

expatinscotland · 29/06/2007 20:53

HHHHAAAAAA, Desi. Been around long?

DC spews not much else but offensive, racist, vile drivel most of the time.

If he's really got that many issues, then he needs to go see a counsellor.

expatinscotland · 29/06/2007 20:54

NO ONE is justifying the IRA's actions.

But does that mean that all Ireland and Irish people deserve to be portrayed as terrorist hatemongers in the press?

Because that's the gist of DC's post, which I find incredibly offensive.

Carmenere · 29/06/2007 20:54

Oh Jesus It's my fault??? Fuck, I didn't realise I was supposed to be preventing terrorist attacks that happened in the past. Shit sorry about that guys. On behalf of 'the Irish' I apologise.

Rhubarb · 29/06/2007 20:55

You lot are bloody heartless at times do you know that?

I'm not a big fan of DC but he's just gone and told you that he was nearly blown up at the age of 5 in a toy shop, I dread to think what else he saw as a young child, and how do you react to this? You take the piss out of him.

Very grown up.

Sorry about your experiences DC. My eldest brother was a soldier serving in Ireland, he saw his best mate blown up, another one hung himself on Christmas Eve and he sent in dogs to sniff out a bomb, only they failed and when he gave the ok for the police to go in, the bomb went off. Factory girls cheered as it did so.

I understand you a lot more now I know that.

expatinscotland · 29/06/2007 20:56

'I'm not a big fan of DC but he's just gone and told you that he was nearly blown up at the age of 5 in a toy shop, I dread to think what else he saw as a young child, and how do you react to this? You take the piss out of him.'

I fail to see how pointing out that you still find posts like that offensive and racist is taking the piss out of him.

Rhubarb · 29/06/2007 20:58

Expat, he's called me many names under the sun because I believe in God, he has called priests paedophiles etc etc. But you have to look behind the insults, he's not always like this and you know that. He's obviously been through a lot of shit and ok, he deals with it in a not so brilliant way, but a little understanding as to why would be nice here.

Carmenere · 29/06/2007 20:59

Oh bollix Rhubarb. The Paramilitaries(both sides) were/are dspicable cowards who wreaked havoc over England and Ireland. But fuck off if you think that the ordinary Irish people condoned or are to be held responsible for their behaviour.

expatinscotland · 29/06/2007 20:59

Sorry, but I disagree. I don't think that's an excuse to write things like that about an entire nation, I really don't.

A LOT of us saw a lot of vile shit growing up.

Some people were abused. That doesn't justify doing the same.

He wrote that post before he came up with the toy shop incident, too.

BreeVanDerCamp · 29/06/2007 20:59

I think it is unfortunate, but I object to being tarred with the same brush. I also object to being told we had it in our remit to stop it. It stopped being about Brits out a long time ago. It was overtaken by organised crime gangs and it remained that pure and simple.

AT one stage there wasn't a single Friday that did not go by without a bank being raided to fund their activities. What was I supposed to do as a 12 year old lie down in front of the getaway car.

OP posts:
Desiderata · 29/06/2007 21:00

I've been around for 42 years, expat. It doesn't mean much, but it does mean that I understand someone's pain, and it also means that the expression of someone's pain should be tolerated, however non-PC it may seem.

Beyond that, I have no political axe to grind. I'm a middle-Englander with no experience of terrorism. Obviously you do, so I will leave you to it.

Rhubarb · 29/06/2007 21:01

Did I say that Carmenere? I am asking for understanding for someone who is Irish and who has seen a lot of shit. But if you are going to attack me too, then I give up. Go ahead and lynch him, that'll really help won't it?

BreeVanDerCamp · 29/06/2007 21:02

That was banks in the 26 counties. BTW

And if we take this to its logical conclusion what the fuck are the english doing in Ireland. ?

OP posts:
BreeVanDerCamp · 29/06/2007 21:02

Sorry that should have been England.

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 29/06/2007 21:02

'and it also means that the expression of someone's pain should be tolerated, however non-PC it may seem. '

Bullshit, DC. Sorry, but that is crap.

You wrote that post and THEN came out with telling us about the toy shop thing.

There is NO excuse for spewing even more hatred and if you can't see that you need some help.

You have NO IDEA what some people have seen and been through and still manage to refrain from coming on here and spewing racist remarks about an entire nation of people.

Rhubarb · 29/06/2007 21:03

What has he said that is so bad?

Would you lot just listen to yourselves?

expatinscotland · 29/06/2007 21:03

And about certain religions, ethnicities, women, etc.

expatinscotland · 29/06/2007 21:04

This: 'I do accept the point that there may have been a racial element to the early coverage.
But to be fair, it is deserved. '

And this: 'To be sure there were good people in Northern Ireland, but they were a small minority. '

BreeVanDerCamp · 29/06/2007 21:04

He has tapped into an aggravation level I was unaware I had.
