Has your dc's school got a less boring motto for Gordon Brown?

When he became PM, Gordon Brown quoted his school motto, "Try to the utmost". Anyone's school got a particularly appropriate one for him, or at any rate one which is a bit less dull than the norm?
My sons is "Respect yourself; respect others; respect the environment." Worthy but oh god so boring.

DD's school (primary) doesn't have a motto.

Last school (secondary) I taught at is "Fiercely Ambitious"

Other school (secondary) I worked at was "Integrity, Tenacity, Service" and we gave class prizes out for pupils demonstrating those traits.

ponces!

in all the many schools i've been to i've never had one that had a motto! (although the ast one did have an advertising campaign as it was an exam school)

FrannyandZooey · 28/06/2007 09:22

My primary school was "Try to Excel"

I am not sure if my secondary school had one, tbh

probably "Try Not to Get Caught"

Hulababy · 28/06/2007 09:24

The Fiercely Ambitious motto comes from a school that was in special measures whilst I taught there. Nothing poncey about the school I can tell you!

dcs school one is "Quality and Achievement"

My college one was "Learn in order that you may teach" (was an old teacher training college, although I didn't do that).

Hmm,
Best one so far for Gordon Brown must be 'Fiercely Ambitious'. I quite like the oak tree one but all the rest are as uninspiring as my ds's -- too much like the god-awful mission statements that every single organisation has to have now. Ditch them all, I say. Has any school out there got a really good motto to prove me wrong?

Honi soit qui mal y pense.

Hathor · 28/06/2007 11:01

How about: Respect for self, respect for others, responsibility for all your actions

Soph73 · 28/06/2007 11:38

Not inspiring but our school motto is "Without Prejudice"

Soph73 · 28/06/2007 11:38

I´m listening to Radio 2 at the moment and they´re debating this point at the moment

beep · 28/06/2007 12:40

dd2's primary school one is "always be kind" .I think its a good.

ViciousSquirrelSpotter · 28/06/2007 12:42

I don't think either of my kids' schools have mottos.

They've got 3 golden rules though.

(Can't remember what they are but they cover everythign)

ViciousSquirrelSpotter · 28/06/2007 12:43

My school motto was

Amor vincit omnia

Which was nice

woopsadaisy · 28/06/2007 12:50

mine was ora et labora

dont know what it means though!

mm22bys · 29/06/2007 21:28

My school's motto was "Nil Sine Labore" - no sign of work, oops maybe that should have been nothing without work!

Didn't he go to a state school? I wonder if he had gone to a non-governmental school if he would have been so quick to share his school motto?

Would any Labour MP be game to share say the motto of Eton or Westminster?
