Wayne Rooney

I was listening to the Jeremy Vine Show on Radio 2 today and they were discussing the move of Wayne Rooney, the footballer, from Everton to Man Utd. An Everton supporter said that it was the worst news since the assassination of John F Kennedy!.

Now, I appreciate that for some out there, football is a matter of life and death but I do think that was overstating it a bit. I have a passing interest in football but I think that the attention that footballers get is way over the top, just like their salaries!

couldn't agree more Uhu - except I take it a few steps further than you. I can't bear most footballers ! they come across as really thick and unsophisticated and they all seem to chew gum incessantly which I find repulsive! and why do they get all that cash? aaargh!!!! I didn't mind Gary Lineker until he made all those walker's crisp adverts - such a bad example to children. Also the papers seem to be full of accounts of footballers getting into fights, drink driving, racist beating etc etc....heroes indeed...anyway I won't carry on but you get my drift!and as for that crook Alex Ferguson.....

Tee hee!!! Donnie, I was trying to be subtle but you've expressed my sentiments exactly.I cringe everytime they interview a footballer on TV: - the lads done good - we got a result -obviously, obviously, uhhh, obviously - you know, you know.........

I know they are not employed for their brains but why is it that most of them cannot utter a coherent sentence?!! Fortunately, my dh hates football with a passion so no chance of my twin DSs being indoctrinated. We also hate the wearing of football shirts as casual wear - keep it for the football pitch guys.

Last year we were on holidy in Spain and you could spot the British guys who dressed up to go out - they wore their football shirts!!! I'm not a snob but I do think the dumbing down culture has gone to far.

Uhu - agreed! wayne rooney is neanderthal man but thicker! I saw him 'interviewed'on TV yesterday and he had a huge wad of gum falling out of his gob the whole time. When asked about how he felt about being transferred he managed to grunt 'great' but only just, and it took a few attempts ! and I feel sorry for those fans who are conned into paying a fortune for some hideous nylon shirt that looks naffer than hell. Titania - you and your dp need some counselling!!!!howabout getting into bowls as an alternative??? or golf perhaps?

Being a Gunners supporter, I could not give a toss about WR and where he goes, MU still will not win any trophies.... this season anyways...

I used to love football but this was in the days of Ian Rush and John Barnes (yes I support Liverpool) Now I can't stand it.
They're all a bunch of GREEDY idiots running around with their Nike sponsored boots and diamond earrings taped up (what the hell is all that about - when I played netball all jewellery was to be removed not bloody taped over!!!)
Anyway, the amount of money they get paid is disgusting and it would seem the footballers are now more powerful than the club - see Leeds and Newcastle!
At least we're not like Columbia, they kill their footballers if they play badly!

being very freckly, it is my deepest fear that I will reject my newborn son if he looks like Wayne Rooney.......
