Schoolgirl fights for right to wear 'chastity ring'

A 16 year-old girl is going to the High Court to gain the right to wear her 'chastity ring' at school. Read more here.

IMHO, this girl hasn't got a leg to stand on. The 'chastity ring' is not a Christian symbol, it is a symbol of a pledge made to remain sexually inactive until marriage, a pledge which can be made by those of all faiths and none. As the ring is not a uniquely Christian symbol, the girl's religious beliefs are not being discriminated against by being told she cannot wear it. For this very simple reason, the High Court should chuck out this case worthwith and tell the girl to get stuffed!!!

There's always a point of no return. People just like to kid themselves there isn't to justify behaviour that makes them uncomfortable the morning after.

paulaplumpbottom · 27/06/2007 14:30

I think they mean the point when your hormones take over your brain

ViciousSquirrelSpotter · 27/06/2007 14:30

But these rings aren't swearing off kissing, stroking, licking, fingers, are they? Just penetrative vaginal sex. Why's that then?

SueBaroo · 27/06/2007 14:30

NKF, agreed.

VSS, I don't think there is 'point of no return', just that it's really, really hard to turn off the motor once it's started.

Aloha · 27/06/2007 14:30

Don't understand that post NFK.

NKF · 27/06/2007 14:30

I don't think there is such a point. There is a point when you decide not to listen to your brain but not a point of being overtaken.

ViciousSquirrelSpotter · 27/06/2007 14:31

So you mean that when they talk about a point of no return, that is not a physical thing, that is a psychological thing?

SueBaroo · 27/06/2007 14:31

VSS, I thought that they were, tbh. Like I say, every other evangelical teaching on the topic has always been clear about that.

Aloha · 27/06/2007 14:32

Yes, exactly. Rapists like to think there is a point when you cannot stop, but you always can. Even if you don't want to.

paulaplumpbottom · 27/06/2007 14:32

Where does it specify vaginal sex? I haven't ever heard that

SueBaroo · 27/06/2007 14:33

some thing like that VSS. It's not a very good phrase, imo.

ViciousSquirrelSpotter · 27/06/2007 14:33

Oh well maybe I'm wrong then. Maybe these kids have sworn not to kiss or touch each other either?

paulaplumpbottom · 27/06/2007 14:34

Aloha what are you talking about? Who is talking about rapist?

NKF · 27/06/2007 14:34

Viscious Squirrel - was that question for me? I don't know what Christians teach, not precisely anyway. But I think they probably teach young people not to be alone together, not to drink heavily, not to do things that their consciences tell them is wrong, to stay pure for their future spouses. That sort of thing.

paulaplumpbottom · 27/06/2007 14:34

Anything other than kissing and holding hands is usually frowned upon

SueBaroo · 27/06/2007 14:35

NKF, yes, that's the kind of thing.

paulaplumpbottom · 27/06/2007 14:36

We would have been allowed to be alone togethr, of course, I think thats why all the teaching, to keep it fresh in our minds whne we were alone

SueBaroo · 27/06/2007 14:36

There's also a big thing about saving your first kiss for your husband, which I always thought was rather sweet. Sadly I became a Christian looooong after it mattered anymore..

paulaplumpbottom · 27/06/2007 14:37

Wow!!!! No kissing? That is harsh

ViciousSquirrelSpotter · 27/06/2007 14:37

But kissing is a very sexual, intimate thing

ViciousSquirrelSpotter · 27/06/2007 14:37

(if it's done properly)

NKF · 27/06/2007 14:38

I'm so old I can remember a time when kissing was all one ever did. Snogging for hours until your lips were sore.

SueBaroo · 27/06/2007 14:38

VSS, damn right

ViciousSquirrelSpotter · 27/06/2007 14:38

It was good

paulaplumpbottom · 27/06/2007 14:41

Can't remember the last time I had sore lips
