Link below for article. A 69 year old man is starting a legal bid to become a 49 year old because he thinks he looks it and he feels it. He doesn't feel 'comfortable' with his date of birth and compares is to gender change. He describes himself as a 'young god'

I think I might start a legal bid to identify as a 70 year old. Think of the compliments I might get!

Can I identify as 67 instead of 47 and get my pension?

If I changed my age so I was in the next veteran's category up, I wouid qualify for the elite 'good for age' marathon and half marathon places.

If he's 49 this year, how old will he be next year? Will he stay 49, or move on to 50, 51 and so on? Or does he want the law to grant him the right to be any age he feels at a given moment?

Once you detach words from reality, nothing makes sense any more.

He can't change when he was really born, he's just asking the law to collide with him in lying to women.

None of this will change the date of his death (always a comforting thought).

Why can't he just lie about his age in the good old-fashioned way?

A paedophiles dream. If a middle aged man could self identify as a child, or convince a child that they actually identify as an adult...

I think it's brilliant- the more daft things like this happen, the sooner the rest of the world is going to realise that you can't change biological fact.

I agree with Pywife2, he’s asking the government to basically endorse his lie so he can pull younger women. That’s the root of all this carry on - men being able to do whatever the hell they like to get laid in any way they deem acceptable, and I’m sick to death of it.

There's a thread on FWR about this. He's a minor celebrity in the Netherlands and he's going to court. The optimist in me hopes he's doing this for the same reasons as the Man Friday campaign, it forces people to think through the consequences of self-ID and may result in a test case showing you can't self-ID. In which case all power to his elbow. Because we can all see how ridiculous it is to self-ID as 20 years younger or as a different race.

I agree with CountFosco, it sounds like maybe he is doing this to prove a point about how ridiculous self-ID is rather than seriously believing he identifies as a different age.

I think he’s doing it to highlight how ridiculous self identification is. Why else would he have informed the press of his intention?

OK, I think I'm 67 and I'd like my pensions, bus pass and fuel allowance now please. I also believe my blood type to be AB+ and I think that I am in fact 6' tall. If you tell me otherwise I shall sue you for defamation of character.

It's not nuts or bonkers. What will be nuts or bonkers is if instead of treating his age dysphoria:

1. the medical profession is bullied into an 'affirmation first' policy instead of treatment-first policy
2. courts ignore medical evidence or turn a blind eye to not even seeking medical treatment for the age dysphoria and grant his wish or
3. law-makers amend legislation to allow his to change his age.

Well if you can change sex on the basis of what you "feel inside" then why not age, or race or (dis)ability? It's no more illogical.

I particularly like the idea of being able to be different ages on different days, depending on how you feel. I think I could really do with being pension age each Mon morning.

Hmm, I identify as a rich banker. I think Lloyds should be ordered to give me a few million in order to assuage my financial dysphoria.
