^A bed firm boss who designed a cot in which a seven-month-old baby "choked to death" has been jailed for three years and four months.
Craig Williams's Playtime Beds Ltd sold the cot bed where Oscar Abbey got stuck trying to crawl through a gap.^

Just dreadful. Those poor poor parents.
However how was this ever being sold as a cot suitable for a baby?
I’m not blaming the parents, not for a moment, but I would have thought that for anything to be sold as a cot there would have to be safety checks and certain rules.

I seem to remember reading that he copied other beds. This bed is not suitable for a baby - but I suppose it was sold as such and they parents trusted him.

The worst part is that a few month before another small child got stuck the same way and almost choked (I don't know if the shop was aware of this though).

Surely though there should be some kind of legislation as to what you can sell as a cot.

I’ve just been looking at this. Is it the bit with the bolted doors in the middle that was meant to be for the baby? I think an older sibling was on the top.

What design can he possibly have been copying?

It’s all just unbelievably awful

I thought the gaps had to be less than 10cm or similar so heads couldn't fit through cot bars?

Cachailleacha · 26/10/2018 18:09

OK, a quick google says 2.5 to 6.5 cm.

I think so, Namechangeforthiscancershit

My understanding is it's a bed/cot bunk bed, in effect.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 26/10/2018 18:14

The bit that appalled me was that even after the police had visited about the baby who died he continued making and selling the same cots with the design unaltered.

He's got 3 kids.

At that point it goes from could have been a terrible mistake to reckless greedy bastard territory.

The baby's head didn't fit through the hole. He wriggled his body through.

There is, that’s why he’s in prison
