Trying to make the title as uninflammatory as possible is bloody hard!!

So, another local news report of travellers sh*tting in local youth sports area

This isn't a pitchforks at dawn type thread, a genuine bafflement - why do they do that??

I know not all do etc, but the ones that come here seem to a lot.

Can anyone explain the reasoning behind it?

I really don't know. We have some that stop here - they have one proper romany caravan which is gorgeous - and they stay a few days and move on. It's honestly no bother. I'm quite happy to live and let live, and I've had more problems with people wot lives in houses tbh.

But I can't understand why some travellers choose to behave like this - seems so entirely counter-productive.

Flame · 06/06/2007 09:42

I have no problem with the ones that are no bother. People in houses who sh*t in kids fields would piss me off too!

Maybe it should be retitled "why do some people sh*t in bad places"?

ikwym - i've had numerous bad experiences with travellers. some of them behave in an appalling manner and it doesn't help public goodwill for official sites etc. i'm completely mystified as to why they do it.

ratclare · 06/06/2007 15:45

could it possibly be because there are no toilets ,still would be much nicer if they buried it

maybe you should stop snorting drugs, gibbon!

Blu · 06/06/2007 16:20

Probably for the same reaon that children and young teenagers have been found to have been shitting in the bushes on our local playground - because the damn toilets are always locked and there are no facilities.

EricL · 06/06/2007 17:35

I used to work in retail and we had a regular guy who would crap in the mens urinal every week just for the sake of it.

Some poor bastard had to clean it every time.

We never caught him in all the time i was there.

Some people have no shame

kerala · 06/06/2007 18:35

There was a phantom poo-er at my school. Used to do one in the corridor while everyone was in lessons. Maybe they get a thrill doing something forbidden? Bizarre though.

LoveAngel · 06/06/2007 21:57

Why do so many supposedly respectable men piss on the street when too drunk or too lazy to find a toilet?

Flame · 06/06/2007 22:55

Oooh hate that too LA.

A couple of years ago travellers moved onto a picnic area (and notorious dogging spot) near here. They promptly smashed the toilets and sinks, then crapped on the carpark for the next 6 weeks. They left tons of rubbish when they left, and there was a huge rise in house burglaries and muggings while they were around too. Just an antisocial bunch, I guess.

bogwobbit · 07/06/2007 12:59

I must say that most travellers sites I've seen are absolutely disgusting with all the rubbish they've dumped. I don't know why they do it eithr - the general public would be much more sympathetic to their cause if they didn't.
Also, last year there were a few of their caravans parked near the railway station dh uses. As he was walking to it one evening, two wee girls, aged about 7 asked him if he wanted a shag

My sister has this at her work to! A phantom shitter. Goes in the toilet, but does a poo on the floor outside the wc. She is a local govt officer and they are going to great lengths to find out who it is!!

Bizarre-a-rooney.

Not just travellers, methinks.

theUrbanDryad · 07/06/2007 13:04

i've lived on site, and also helped to put on parties in fields and warehouses, and we always left places cleaner than when we got there! i think the problem is that people can get together and travel with the best will in the world, but then the smack and crackheads turn up and spoil it for everyone. there used to be alot more "decent" people who travelled, but the Battle of the Beanfield and the Criminal Justice Act put a stop to all that

TnOgu · 07/06/2007 13:05

I did a poo in the garden once, but I was 4 at the time.

theUrbanDryad · 07/06/2007 13:05

also, the clean travellers who don't make a mess or a nuisance of themselves don't make the headlines....

theUrbanDryad · 07/06/2007 13:05

LOL TnOgu

niceglasses · 07/06/2007 13:06

I don't know Tnogu, better out than in as they say.

TnOgu · 07/06/2007 13:08

My mother always says that

MissGolightly · 07/06/2007 13:12

How did they know it was travellers? Did they see them shitting or have they analysed the poo!?!?

Personally I would treat newspaper reports with a bit of suspicion. There was a huge furore in the Evening Standard about travellers (or maybe it was immigrants, I can't remember) eating the swans in St James's park a while back. Turned out to be total bollocks. The park keepers gave a mystified statement saying that not one swan had even been missed, let alone confirmed eaten.

I think I need to change my pants after reading Fio's post......the gardening gloves did it
