Hi all I seem to feel cut off from the world!

I'm a mum of two soon to be three,
The only media I have are mum sites.

I've just read the "sticker woman" thread
And I am highly intrigued with what else I have missed please can someone update me with "what's hot" right now news wise.

I feel I have no education in modern life I need to roll with the times!

Thankyou xxxx

If you have internet access (as you apparently do) how can you have access to no media other than "mum sites"!?!

PerspicaciaTick · 25/08/2018 07:45

I'd start listening to Radio 4, especially stuff like the Today programme (early morning) or PM (late afternoon). They are not without their flaws (especially around women's concerns) but they should help get you up to speed with the ebb and flow of news.

MyOtherProfile · 25/08/2018 07:47

Try reading the news on the BBC website or buy the i paper for quick input.

JW1226 · 25/08/2018 07:57

@eurochick I do have internet however I am unsure of where you all get your info from!
I downloaded this app and another mum app.

I see a lot of people have got Twitter I've never used it so I shall download!

Just wanted some insight to what's going on at the moment so I can keep up to date with the outside world x

Maybe using actual, accredited news sites rather than social media will give you a more accurate and balanced view of the world?

JW1226 · 25/08/2018 08:15

@Ifailed Well I have the bbc news app but I haven't seen the transgender sticker woman thing it seems there's more information on here than there is on the tv or news app.

I also like reading people's opinions on matters.

Il pop to the shop and get a paper lol x

All the newspapers post online. Personally I read the DM online but other newspapers are available. Or the BBC do a breaking news service?

Ifailed · 25/08/2018 08:37

I find it interesting to look at (the English language) versions of foreign papers, they will often have a much different viewpoint on world events.
For example:
www.france24.com/en/, French state owned.
www.spiegel.de/international/, German
www.ansa.it/english/, Italian.
Then of course you have www.independent.ie/, timesofindia.indiatimes.com/ etc.

Kimlek · 25/08/2018 08:47

I know what you mean. I don’t think you are looking for news per se are you but more chit chat and opinion on interesting topics. Sunday brunch on TV is good to have on catch up whilst doing other as often have interesting people on. I listen to radio 5 during the week in the car (if the kids let me). It can be a bit sporty but also discuss news topics. Every time I put radio 4 on it seems to be the archers or a play of some kind. I think radio stations are a bit chattier about news items than TV. Having said all this where’s the sticker woman’s thread please?

MyOtherProfile · 25/08/2018 08:59

I really recommend the I paper as it is bitesize. Don't buy one of the tabloids if you want actual news. Especially not the DM or DE. Or the Sun. Or any of them.

Singlenotsingle · 25/08/2018 09:29

We've been in Liverpool and the north west this week. The Sun is banned up here. Something to do with their reporting of the Hillsborough disaster.

Please educate me !
MyOtherProfile · 25/08/2018 10:26

"Scousers never buy the sun" as Billy Bragg sang. Because they printed horrible stuff and lies about Hillsborough.

Thank you. I get the times sent to my inbox but it’s obviously not chatty - will check out the I paper - is that the independent?

MyOtherProfile · 25/08/2018 11:05

It was the sister paper to the independent but for people with less time to read a paper. I'm a fan of their puzzle page too Grin

JW1226 · 26/08/2018 07:57

@Kimlek hey did you manage to locate the thread? If so what are your thoughts on it? I'm finding it a very interesting read! X

I love the feminist threads. Some very educated, well read and articulate ladies over there!

XingMing · 02/09/2018 17:43

Just read, after the newspaper, try books. Complex subjects deserve a decent amount of thinking while you decide what you think. You may disagree. That's encouraged!

Jux · 02/10/2018 18:52

I can't find that thread; can you link to it?
