Just seen on the News that it is hoped organ donation will become 'Opt Out' rather than 'Opt In' by 2020, if the change in law gets through the final stage in the Autumn.
About time, IMO.
It was changed in Wales in 2015
Research shows that 80% of people would be happy to donate their organs, but currently only 37% have got round to signing up.

People who choose to, would still be able to register to 'opt out' , but this will hopefully mean more organs available for the 6000 currently on the waiting list.

Yes I do accuse people of being childish. Which is why I wrote that to illustrate.

I am actually fine with people opting out if they don't want to donate. Opting out while being pro donations is consciously letting people die to make a point and is very childish and dispicable in my opinion.

I prefer this. I don’t want my data on any nhs database because they’ll only lose it or sell it. That’s why I hadn’t signed the transplant register.
Now they’ll just assume consent without me needing to do anything. Much more sensible, and cheaper for them IMO.

Opting out is a way of showing that you disapprove of the ethical mine field that this opens up.

To say that people are being childish is shutting down any chance of a proper discussion.

Lets take what Seniorschoolmum has just posted.

In order for this to work there has to be a database of yes and no, otherwise how do we know who wants what?

There has to be a database with every-bodies details on it otherwise we will not be able to find out who is eligible to donate to whom.

is this misinformation or ignorance of how a system works?

Now they’ll just assume consent without me needing to do anything. Much more sensible, and cheaper for them IMO.

The system that we have in place now has been abused and 'mistakes' made.

A system that presumes consent openly lends itself to being abused and even more 'mistakes' made.
