Mothercare closures

Sad news to read about the closure of so many Mothercare Stores, especially for the people loosing their jobs.

However they are very very expensive and to be fair, unless there's a sale or promotion on you can buy the things much cheaper elsewhere really.

If we loose ours, now we've lost toys r us - there is only the entertainer and supermarkets where we can buy toys. I wonder if the ELC part of the business will continue to trade?

Whenever I hear about any industry closing down, I always think about the loss of jobs and wonder where on earth those poor people are going to find other employment. I agree Mothercare is very expensive, I really don't know how they have been able to trade for so long.

The supermarkets seem to have captured the market for children's toys and clothes. Let's face it, who really wants to pay a lot for children's clothing, which they are going to grow out of in a matter of months.

I agree I found them overpriced when my Ds was 11.

I'll be sad to see ELC go, if they do actually go

I remember the old mothercare catalogues when I was a child. Back then it was the only option for baby things

It’s sad for the staff who will lose their jobs, but Mothercare is an exceptionally poor shop.
They pretty much have a whole captive audience of expectant parents/ parents of young children and it would be most people’s first port of call if you were shopping for baby stuff.
But the shops are filthy, the staff are uninterested (not all of course, but in the main), everything is super expensive and their availability isn’t great. Last time I was looking for sleeveless vests I couldn’t get the size I needed, but could order online.

I'm hoping ELC May perhaps continue as from reading stories innthe press that element of the business seems to be profitable.

On the plus side loads of the toys are half price currently there's a fab Happyland advent calendar on the website for £12.50 I had it last year my daughter loved it.

The loss of Jobs in retail is worrying tho so far we've lost/ will be loosing

Toys r us
Homebase
Maplins
Bhs
House of Fraser - soon to go
Mothercare - soon to go

And from what I hear Debenhams may not be far behind this list!!!! X

Not surprised.
Mothercare has been rubbish for years

We are recruiting now, we went into some of these closing stores and advised them to apply for our roles. A few have. That's great as the experience goes a long way
