It says she was stressed by the birth - I would be too if I had given birth to something that weighed 250 lb!

awwwrrr...how sad! how strange too. And its not the first time either, she killed her first baby a few years back! Some women are just not meant to have babies! LOL

maybe she sensed something was wrong with the babies?

You can't see it on the link, but in the Scotsman paper there is a photo of the baby elephant being taken out of the water by zoo staff

It says she turned in her enclosure and accidentally crushed the first baby.

Maybe the crowd didn't help and stressed her out even more?

There are photos here. I read it also in the Scotsman so just had to find photos of the poor wee thing, and it turns out it is back with mummy!

It must have took some doing to pull a slippy wet elephant out the water. Poor little thing is being pulled out by his trunk, still if it saved his life.

I just saw pics in the newspaper. horrible sight tbh, everyone screaming and shouting. the calf was tiny and mother kicking and trampling it all over the place. Calf got saved in the end- ye ha!
