Has anyone heard this today? The audio is unbearable but needs to be shared. I'm in bits after listening to it. Trump and his crowd should hang their heads in shame. Dreadful.

Dreadful indeed. How do you stop illegal immigration and achieve a compliant environment then? If you know this will be the outcome them you are much less likely to break the law. Returning swiftly to the country of origin with the children should be the choice for all but those who actually qualify for political asylum.

Heartbreaking and horrific. I really hope there is a big mobilisation to stop this. It’s unbelievably inefficient and cruel.

Their parents have broken the law, of course children cry, but they are not in any danger there. Their parents have put them in that predicament

Civilised societies don’t punish children to teach their parents a lesson.

My understanding is that Trump is doing this to force the democrats into signing his new immigration bill. The current laws and process is ridiculous. Who thinks it's acceptable separates small children from their parents and who thought this process would be tolerated by American people? Everyone here is

And everyone keen to excuse this based on “but their parents broke the law” should go and remind themselves that seeking asylum is not breaking the law, either.

Marylou2 - I don't really know what the solution is but I know it isn't to put children as young as 9 months old in prison cells, sleeping on concrete with emergency foil blankets as their bedding.

They aren't even being cared for in a basic way, the older teens are changing nappies and feeding the little ones because the staff arent.

If it was the UK, if a parent can't look after their children, if they were just incompetent parents, or if they were made homeless, or if they had mental health problems. Shove the kids into a warehouse full of wire cages and the parents will learn to be responsible for their mistakes and bad decisions. Would that be acceptable? Would it solve the problem?

I think it is heinous, it is cruel, it is unacceptable. The decision makers and those who blindly follow these rules should be held to account.

Yet another example of how Trump cares for no one but himself. I thought Maggie Thatcher was a wicked and immoral Prime Minister but Trump is unbelievable.

Their parents have not broken the law. You can only claim asylum once you have entered the US. So they are actually following the procedure for those fleeing political oppression, torture etc.

The US need to look long and hard at it’s policies for refugees and asylum seekers from central and South America. These people make up a large percentage of minimum wage workers in border states and obviously fill a void. There needs to be a better system.

sonlypuppyfat Are you for real? Their parents broke the law justifies this? Justifies separating vulnerable children from their already desperate parents, locking them in cages, traumatising them? Who is safeguarding these kids, who is making sure no harm comes to them? all it takes is one bad adult in there.

And sonlypuppyfat as others have said these parents are not breaking any law they are entering the US and claiming asylum this is a ridiculous excuse the administration are using to justify it so stop repeating the lies.

America should be ashamed I can say hand on heart there would a national outcry in my country (Ireland) if this was being done there is no way the government would get away with it but they are in the States as the saying goes all it takes for evil to prevail is for good men (and women) to do nothing, come on America use your voice stop this before they do more harm.

anametouse I know there are American Embassy protests planned in Dublin tomorrow being organised by Amnesty International so maybe similar is happening in UK?

That small children, and in some cases children with disabilities (so even more terrifying for the poor child) are being taken from their parents and put into cages, but it’s ok with you if the parents are ‘criminals’. If you got say a driving ticket you’d be ok with the police removing your small child and putting him/her in a cage where god knows who has access to said defenceless child?

These parents are not breaking any laws. Removing children from parents seeking asylum is not a law it’s policy which Trump is using to further his (I don’t even know what his) aim is here.

I don’t care who you are, I cannot believe there is a single person who lives o this planet can think this horrific treatment of young vulnerable babies and children is anything but inhumane.

I’m shocked at how blasé so many people are about this & trying to justify the unjustifiable.

It’s a drip drip of desensitising acts that should cause public outcry. The nazis did this, they pretended to take the children away to give them baths and caged them.

Anyone agreeing to this should be deeply ashamed of themselves.

I’m horrified by the number of posts I’ve read of people proudly proclaiming they agree with this.

Doesn’t take much for people to lose basic humanity and decency.

Interesting timing that America has now quit from the UN Human Rights Council stating that the rest of the world is continuing to criticize how it supports Israel's horrendous treatment of the Palestinians. The US believes they are in the right but now their actions in Texas surrounding these children who have done nothing wrong are being highlighted to the rest of the world.

Families with kids are a small fraction of the total illegal crossings; adults without kids are probably 70-80% of the illegal crossings. Since the system can't sustain this set of policies, the policy will not change anything in long run... except causing trauma to thousands of kids and a lot of bad reputation for the US govt. Has anyone talked about schooling, health insurance, etc., for so many people? Which dept. federal budget is paying for it all? The economic costs are going to be enormous.

I'd hate to work for border control now; I think I'd have to quit if this had become my job.

... will take months for the prosecutions and asylum claims to proceed. Months of US taxpayers paying for this cruel policy.

As someone living in America I've been writing letters to my representatives asking for them to sit at the table and neigotiate. Social media campaigns won't change this. Our politicians sitting at the table and neigotiating will.

Just seen on Sky News - Trump has conceded and is signing an order that children will stay with their parents. Some mad women in Washington is ranting about they have broken the law so no problem treating them so badly. She doesn’t seem to get it that that haven’t been convicted of any crime.
