In England the McCanns would be arrested

Off the bat, I of course hope with all my heart that Madeleine is returned safely

But her "parents" are a disgrace. They left Madeleine and two-year-old twins Sean and Amelie sleeping in the apartment ON THEIR OWN. They had taken turns to return from the restaurant to check on their children.

Now hang on! In this country that is illegal, for very good reason.

Even if they 'checked on them' every five minutes that's plenty of time for one of the kids to wake up and try to go to the toilet and crack it's head open slipping on the bathroom floor, or something equally disastrous. They'd never hear the screaming from a bloody restaurant down the road!

Obviously it's unlikely, but I just cant comprehend the mentality of leaving three children under 3 alone on their own, ever, let alone at night in a foreign country!

is this STILL going on?

CODalmighty · 19/05/2007 18:53

PeachyChocolateEClair · 19/05/2007 18:53

sorry our business.

You seem extremely antagonistic towards the McCann fanmily bobbysmum, quite shockingly so, with something of a desperate need to prove them awful in every single aspect of their existence. Its one thing debating childcare laws- but quite another wanting all the details of their financial exopenses!

thedogsbollox · 19/05/2007 18:53

The lawyers are there to do the legal work necessary to start up the fund. They are from the firm of solicitors who will be administering the fund.

I have seen no suggestion that the McCann's need solicitors in relation to the case itself, although if they have to give a sworn witness statement in court with cross examination, as has been suggested is usual in Portugal, then they might need legal representation for that. It would most likely need to be local lawyers though.

PeachyChocolateEClair · 19/05/2007 18:54

Agreed COd

And actually I am getting angry so will parp and depart

bobbysmum07 · 19/05/2007 18:56

None of our business to know who's paying their legal fees?

Are you joking?

PeachyChocolateEClair · 19/05/2007 18:59

OK sod the parp

I cannot for the life of me understand why you want to know who is apying the fees!

Judy1234 · 19/05/2007 19:00

Of course they don't need personal lawyers but they will need all kinds of other legal advice such as on charity law in setting up funds, on a web site legal issues which is attracting 50m hits etc.

And I don't who could think they are particularly wealthy and able to afford legal fees. They keep saying Mrs Mcc is a GP but I think she works only 2 days a week and doctors are not like Merchant Bankers in terms of income. Presumably they were out there out of peak season because the rates as so much lower something once you have children at nursery school or school you can't then do.

Qu, I still don't think the author was saying it was illegal and I don't how they could know anyway. I think courts have to assess if there was "neglect" and if you've been in that sort of complex it's a perfectly safe normal thing to do to do that kind of checking when they're asleep. It's not neglect.

Of course all parents are always suspects because sadly in most cases chidlren are hurt by their parents but I think that's very very unlikely here.

bigbird2003 · 19/05/2007 19:13

I think the question of the fees is whether it is coming from the fund that has been set up

People are sending money 'to find madeleine" not to pay legal expenses, however they are accrued

The tide is turning and the parents are getting a lot of stick.

I don't see how money could help find her, not at this early stage. The police cannot have their investigation messed up by amateur sleuths or PI's

Is it a fund or a charity? I didn't think you could get charity status that easily or quickly. If it's a fund then there are no rules on how the money is spent. It may not even get to the McCanns, just stay with the organisers.

I don't like the idea of a fund at all

WHERE?

bigbird2003 · 19/05/2007 19:15

Everywhere other than mumsnet

PeachyChocolateEClair · 19/05/2007 19:16

I'm not thick, actually I have managed two well known charities and am studying ethics as part of my degree

I do however like to retain some charity and empathy in my posting and endeavour to do so in my life too

they are being open about the uses for their funds, and it is being monitored by lawyers as far as we can tell. therefore they ahve restrictions palced up on them.

However I do not like people who are offensive to my opinions as that is not a debate iots just nasty, therefore adieu (and thanks Dino)

LadyOfTheFlowers · 19/05/2007 19:16

Judy1234 · 19/05/2007 19:17

What tide? They are like any parent on the planet who has lost a child. Very very upset and doing everything in their power to get her back. We'd all do the same. If people want to contribute to help find the child that's great. What the funds will be used for will be very clear. I haven't tried to get on the site but I expect it says.

CODalmighty · 19/05/2007 19:17
