poor little boy. He must have been so scared.

ktmoomoo · 15/05/2007 19:11

that so sad those poor kiddies just dumped in a hatch like animals

ScaryHairy · 15/05/2007 19:12

It's not ideal but at least he had somewhere safe to leave his son. I can't imagine what the boy's father went through to raise a child for a couple of years and then to conclude that he couldn't keep him. It's very sad.

ktmoomoo · 15/05/2007 19:12

but i think it will keep abortion rate down that has to be a plus

fannyannie · 15/05/2007 19:12

poor little mite.

Ktmoomoo - surely it's better than being abandoned where they may not be found??

southeastastra · 15/05/2007 19:13

i can see why it helps mothers of newborns, but three years old!

Very sad he was dumped. At least it was somewhere he would be cared for and for a very short time if an alarm sounded.

Twiglett · 15/05/2007 19:14

beats the alternative

ktmoomoo · 15/05/2007 19:17

it ok annie lol

TheArmadillo · 15/05/2007 19:17

in an ideal world these things wouldn't exist (and they have existed for hundreds of years on and off in various places).

They are much better than the alternatives.

Imagine how desperate you must be to use them.

ktmoomoo · 15/05/2007 19:19

the father must have been distraught to have left his son i cant imagine his pain

ruty · 16/05/2007 13:56

at least he was taken somewhere safe thank god.

expatinscotland · 16/05/2007 14:05

He was left someplace safe. Whoever did that must have been so desperate. What's sad is whatever it was that drove a man to do this to his child.

nailpolish · 16/05/2007 14:08

where is the childs mother?

stinkletsmum · 17/05/2007 10:34

I feel so sad for the little boy and his father.

In some ways these hatches seem like a good idea. A baby was recently abandoned outside a Sydney hospital in a cardboard box and was blue with cold when found by staff. A hatch and nice warm incubator seems like a better alternative.

But what about the mental and physical health of the mothers leaving their newborns in these hatches? If the babies are left there anonymously there is no way of knowing whether they gave birth safely or alone and whether they need any help. At least if these women are going for abortions they are receiving medical attention.
