I'm so gutted for his family, I was hoping he would prove everyone wrong, I keep giving my 15 month old baby boy big hugs :(
Rest in Peace little soldier 💙

The OP and poshindevon show the polar extremes of the distastefullness of this whole case. The OP for goading and relishing in the thought that the medics may wrong and poshindevon not so subtle reply in deriding bereaved parents. At the end of the day poor Alfie had been in hospital since 2016 he was never going to micarously become a normal little boy.

MrsMozart · 28/04/2018 08:56

Rest in peace little lad.

SemperIdem · 28/04/2018 09:00

How sad. I feel so dreadfully sorry for his parents, I can understand why they couldn’t accept it and fought against it, completely. As others have said, they have been manipulated disgustingly in their grief and desperation by people whose agenda was never in Alfie’s best interests.

Toddlerteaplease · 28/04/2018 09:10

Rest in peace little one. I hope his parents had lovely cuddles with him. And will find peace in the future.

Rip Alfie.
Only deep sympathy for Tom and Kate. Flowers to them.
I sincerely hope they are surrounded by loving caring people. Plus allow themselves to take all the professional support that is offered.
Tomorrow is the time to mention the AA
Today I quiet and respectfully remember little Alfie, you where do loved.

I really don't want to sound patronising but Tom Evans is a working class, not particularly well educated guy. You have to really admire the way he was willing and able to stand up to doctors, courts and the media. He came across as very articulate. I don't agree with so much of what went on but I do respect the fact he stood up for his son.
My dm is very poorly just now. My dad is well educated, had a high level public sector job and was considered quite a formidable guy. My db and I are very concerned with the treatment plan the hospital has put forward but my dad is very much 'the doctors know best'. He was supposed to have a meeting a couple of days ago and the oncologist didn't show up. He said 'oh well they're busy people'. I don't think doctor/family relationships should become adversarial but I do think people should have more confidence to stand up for themselves.

TwigTheWonderKid · 28/04/2018 09:45

MissEliza I understand where you are coming from and would never want to return to the days where medical staff were put on pedestals and their decisions never questioned however, these doctors and judges are hugely knowledgable and experienced and most importantly detatched enough to be able to work in the best interests of others. I'm not sure that Tom Evans' "standing up for" his son really helped him.

SemperIdem · 28/04/2018 09:45

Well, what is there to admire here really, MissEliza? Out of desperation Tom Evans railed against medics who were giving his son world class, life prolonging treatment. Gave medically correct advice.

I can put myself in his shoes enough to understand why he did it of course, I’m not a monster but he was wrong.

MissEliza · 28/04/2018 09:59

Yes I get where you are coming from Twig. I believe it's good to question and not just that as gospel what the doctors say. However it became absolutely ludicrous in the Evans case. There's a healthy middle ground.

Tattybogle89 · 28/04/2018 10:05

Condolences to the family of Alfie Evans. RIP.

idobelieveinfairies86 · 28/04/2018 10:35

Grief tourists really?? Who the fuck are any of you to say who can be upset and who can't? Empathy is the correct term.
Alfie, (rightly or wrongly) has become a fixture in thousands of people's lives. People, PARENTS have followed his heart breaking story and it falls too close to home for most of us. As a mother whose very first pregnancy resulted in my angel never taking a breath or opening their eyes, I had every right to HOPE (read the definition ffs) that alfie, (and all the children who are as we speak suffering) by some miracle would recover. And I have every right this morning to mourn for the loss of a little boy. I cried this morning on hearing the news, not because im selfish or being a tourist or any other degoritory names you want to label us with but because I have empathy, i have been where Tom and Kate have been, and I have a child who could easily BE alfie with little to no notice!

I fully supported AH btw and am convinced that T&K just couldn't come to terms with the fact that they couldn't save their baby. They were blinded by their subconscious grief and the matter had to be taken from their hands.

I hope T&K recieved every possible support now and can learn to live safe in the knowledge that alfie knew they loved him and that he will never again know pain.

RIP BABY ALFIE, may your wings carry you far.
x

Bluelady · 28/04/2018 10:43

I'm frankly shocked at what's happened on this thread. The disrespectful and inappropriate comments are unbelievable. Can we just show some respect and compassion? A much loved little boy has just died.

Ski40 · 28/04/2018 10:46

So heartbreaking. I wish the brave parents comfort, they behaved with such dignity in the face of horror. 💔

mustbemad17 · 28/04/2018 10:47

I hope he is now out of any pain or discomfort. Fly high little man.

As much as i have disagreed with the route the parents took, i hope to god they realise they did everything they could, and more, for their baby.

Mightymucks · 28/04/2018 10:50

Glad he is at peace now and hope his family are receiving a lot of support. They’ve been through a huge trauma.

x2boys · 28/04/2018 10:50

Rip Alfie I'm so sorry for his parents but im Glad he's at peace.

lavendargreen · 28/04/2018 10:53

R.I.P. Alfie. Sad

I will repeat what someone said on twitter a few minutes ago, as I think it says it all.....

RIP Alfie Evans. Sincere condolences to his grieving parents. And shame on the parasites who exploited their distress.

I feel for his parents, as there are few things worse than losing a child, but the massive furore and circus that built up around Alfie's case, and the behaviour from some of the people calling themselves 'Alfie's Army' - attacking the hospitlal and its staff - was a disgrace.

He is at peace now, so these people need to just go away now, and get on with their lives, and do something constructive with their time, instead of attacking those individuals who are just trying to help people.

I don't know why they do it - maybe they feel the need to be part of something bigger than them, or maybe they have nothing better to do, but whatever the reason, their behaviour was shocking.

I have seen quite a number of people with the ALFIE'S ARMY logo on their facebook page (not my friends I hasten to add, but some people in general, like friends of friends of friends,) and it makes me laugh because they don't even know him OR his family.

As I said, maybe they just feel the need to be part of something, but there are much better things to become part of. Join a bloody voluntary organisation of something, and help in your community, instead of wasting your time on something that is nothing to do with you or your family or friends, and viciously attacking people, and waging hate campaigns on them!
