Watching live on BBC news SmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmile

They both look really pleased and happy to be shaking hands and going from South to North and back again over the border line between South & North

The politics of it all is a bit too complicated for me but the expressions on both their faces was amazing

I really hope ALL the Korean people are able to watch it too

Watching here in Korea, quite emotional. They both seem really relaxed and hopeful.

I’m so hoping for, at least, peace.

SubtitlesOn · 27/04/2018 01:54

I was really surprised how happy and relaxed they both were, they both looked like really genuine smiles

Do you know if it is being shown in North Korea on their TV?

I am in UK btw

I can't help but feel a little suspicious about it all. It's such a drastic change of view for N Korea in a very short space of time.

ThisIsTheFirstStep · 27/04/2018 02:03

Who knows, OP, so little is known about the north and what access they have.

On TV here, the big thing is that Moon stepped into NK after Kim invited him over the line - totally unplanned but Moon went with it. He’s really well known for his diplomacy and that part was definitely a hit.

I

ThisIsTheFirstStep · 27/04/2018 02:06

london Not really. Reunification has been NK’s aim since the Korean war.

Today is about Korea. NK’s rhetoric tends to be directed toward the US, not the south.

The western media heavily distorts what happens here. I mean very heavily.

Plus every time SK has a left wing president, relations thaw. A lot of the tension in the past few years was ramped up by Park Geun Hye, her supporters are all about keeping north and south separate.

SubtitlesOn · 27/04/2018 02:12

Oh yes, I am sure there is much more to it than what has just happened

Whatever it is that each side want from this summit

I was just very happy and emotional to see the 2 men smiling and shaking hands and hope they are still smiling after the meetings, meals and tree planting. SmileSmileSmile

That is amazing that it wasn't expected for him to step over the border

It just shows that it was really natural and not organised by the advisors

Just watching it be replayed again on BBC

Yes Kim Jong-un seems to say to Moon Jae-in, shall we step over the border line and he agrees with a smile

So chuffed that it was like that, thanks for info and insight

OP me too me too.

It’s really amazing that this is happening. This time last year, the situation seemed absolutely hopeless. There was an absolute stalemate.

My children are mixed Korean and British and it would mean so much to me. If not reunification, at least peace. For my children to grow up not hating their neighbours and not to fear nuclear war would be life-changing for our family.

ThisIsTheFirstStep · 27/04/2018 02:21

Kim just invited Moon to Pyeongyang to eat Pyeongyangnaengmyeon, a kind of cold noodle dish from the north. And everyone laughed and smiled.

Really amazing. I have to get ready for work but I can’t tear myself away from the TV.

SubtitlesOn · 27/04/2018 02:27

Kim is saying they need to meet more often and get their heads together more often and talk together. He is looking forward to the dinner

Moon is saying they should celebrate them meeting together and discuss things in more detail

The meeting is being shown on BBC but with translators so think time delay

BBC is saying that it is first time we have heard Kim speak unscripted Smile

So pleased for your children, family and friends SmileSmileSmileSmile

Pyeongyang was where the Olympics were wasn't it?

OP posts:
ThisIsTheFirstStep · 27/04/2018 02:34

Pyeongchang was where the Olympics was, Pyeongyang is the capital of NK.

Koreans are not very imaginative or varied when it comes to naming stuff.

SubtitlesOn · 27/04/2018 02:39

Oh Oke doke SmileSmileSmile

Thanks for explaining SmileSmileSmile

Sorry don't really know the place names in N or S Korea BlushBlushBlush

OP posts:
SubtitlesOn · 27/04/2018 02:40

Yes of course it would have been in N K if Kim was inviting BlushBlushBlushBlushBlush

It is confusing, I call places the wrong names all the time.

IntelligentYetIndecisive · 27/04/2018 03:39

There are numerous reports that North Korea's nuclear testing site has collapsed and has become destabilised.

NK's giving up their nuclear testing may be due to necessity not because of any 'feels' on the part of Kim Jong-Un.

www.theguardian.com/world/2018/apr/26/north-korea-nuclear-test-site-collapse-may-be-out-of-action-china

ThisIsTheFirstStep · 27/04/2018 04:08

intelligent it really isn’t that important today why kju has decided to do this. I doubt anyone over the age of 10 believes it has anything to do with ‘feels’. That doesn’t make it any less important.

Beyond that, of course there is emotion on both sides. How can there not be? But of course Kim didn’t just wake up and feel that his headt longed for reconciliation. Why would you even think to post that? No one thinks it’s the case.

MrsDilber · 27/04/2018 04:12

I agree, hoping for a sincere, positive change.

turnipfarmers · 27/04/2018 07:33

History in the making, truly incredible. I could have stayed up all night watching it.

DoryNow · 27/04/2018 07:38

I suspect taking the moral high ground over the idiot in the White House has helped too -well done which ever minister pointed that out!

Deescalating the threat of nuclear war whatever the reason is bloody brilliant, long may the accord continue!

strawberry1122 · 27/04/2018 07:39

Its all very sureal isn't it. It seems just like yesterday they were ready to go to all out war with each other. It will be even more sureal when Kim and Trump meet.

Efrig · 27/04/2018 07:50

I hope the North Korean population will be able to be helped by all this. They deserve better living conditions and an end to those horrific prison camps.

DoryNow · 27/04/2018 08:18

I suspect a certain so called world leader is spitting feathers at the thought of being denied a war - He's ITCHING to make himself look good to his acolytes.

strawberry1122 · 27/04/2018 08:22

Or you could say Trump's hardline approach has brought Kim into line. Obama sat back and watched Kim develop nukes.
