Listening to the report from there on R4 today. I was actually feeling quite emotional. I know there may be a way to go, I know that things may still go wrong, I know there must be plenty of bad blood, but it is still amazing.

UnquietDad · 08/05/2007 13:32

Martin McGuinness still talks as if he is speaking "oudda da soide of his moyth and thru clencht teeth" though. He's always sounded an untrustworthy so-and-so. I'd watch him carefully if I were Paisley. What's that old saying - keep your friends close and your enemies closer?...

OrmIrian · 08/05/2007 13:33

Phew... thanks Squonk! I panicked a bit there....

Goosebumps just about sums it up.

All the people here really want peace, obviously apart from a few hardliners.

Hopefully this is the beginning of a whole new chapter in the history books

fireflyfairy2 · 08/05/2007 13:36

Unquiet dad, that's some Dublin accent you have there for Martin Mc Guinness.. considering he's from Co.Derry

I honestly thought I had misheard this on the news, I mean, Paisley and McGuiness?

There are some serious lessons to be learnt by a lot of people around the world that these 2 could even consider working together, let alone actually go ahead and do it (IYSWIM)

Great news, and a serious step forward.

noddyholder · 08/05/2007 14:57

I was brought up in N.I and this is a truly historic day.Coming from an area where paisley was revered by many it is a MIRACLE that these 2 are talking and working together.Like someone else sadi lessons to be learned

donnie · 08/05/2007 15:06

agree : such things CAN be done where there is the real will to do so.

Other world leaders - take note.

Rosylily · 08/05/2007 15:22

Yep i am finally feeling a little bit proud to be northern irish. This place is changing very slowly but it is a miracle thinking of how it was.

fireflyfairy2 · 08/05/2007 15:36

Rosylily · 08/05/2007 15:43

Actually I might indeed!

fireflyfairy2 · 08/05/2007 15:47

Excellent

Some people have to shoot off at lunchtime though, so there might be a few of us can stay a wee bit longer.

There is a thread in charitable events )

stleger · 08/05/2007 16:06

Fingers crossed! My 2 older kids, born in Belfast, went to a school in Maine for a term called George J Mitchell Elementary. He is a great man. (John Hume isn't well, he is missed from current events).
