Why are these terrosrists being jailed here?

So far the ring leader has received 40 years, another has been sentanced life so will be able to apply for parole in 20 years and another has been given 35 years.

Why on earth are we paying to keep them in our prisons?
Men who want to kill other people and think they are right in doing so.

Its just not right.

All but one of them lived in the UK, the remaining one was born in the UK but at the choice of his family, educated in Pakistan - he apparently found it hard to integrate on his return and went back.
Of course these people are not right. It's only the minority that agree with them. At least in prison they can't hurt us.

donnie · 30/04/2007 14:33

where do you think they should be jailed, Nbg ?

Nbg · 30/04/2007 14:34

No they cant hurt us but in a way I find it wrong that we have to pay to keep them in prison.

It seems to good for them.

They are British, live in Britain, and as such, should be punished in Britain.

even though they tried to blow up Britain.

littlemissbossy · 30/04/2007 14:35

Yes it probably is too good for them - but then it's also too good for the likes of Ian Huntley isn't it

Nbg · 30/04/2007 14:35

I think what I'm trying to say is that they shouldnt be jailed at all.

I'm not going to come out with rubbish like they should be sent back to Pakistan but I just think jail is too good for them

OP posts:
Nbg · 30/04/2007 14:36

Thats right, it is too good for likes of Ian Huntley.

is this another ' let's bring back the death penalty ' thread? what exactly would be ' good enough' for killers and terrorists?

Nbg · 30/04/2007 14:41

I dont know Donnie.

These terrorists are happy to kill themselves for something that they believe is right so to sentance them to death wouldnt seem right.

But at the same time, why jail them.

OP posts:
Caligula · 30/04/2007 14:47

Well, we jail them because we haven't got the death penalty.

It's jail or death.

Why, are you calling for an alternative?

donnie · 30/04/2007 14:48

maybe transportation like the olden days of Victoria.

Nbg · 30/04/2007 14:52

There is no alternative is there though.

Personally I think Jail is good enough for the likes of IH. He has to live in there everyday knowing what he has done.

But the terrorists are totally different.

I dont know what would be right for them tbh.

you seem to be implying that they need some kind of education or therapy to make them see that their ideas are wrong and/or twisted. But why would that not be appropriate for other types of killers as well? why is prison the best place for Ian Huntley but not convicted would be bombers?

mamazon · 30/04/2007 15:02

these convictions make me feel ill. the ring leader lives within spitting distance of my house.

it turns out he could well have been behind or at least contributed to the july 7th bombings.

what makes it worse is that the mosque that these men went to have had a stall up in the local shopping centre preaching.
i have no idea what about as they are speaking in their own language but i can bet you a fiver its not about how great the NHS and EDUCATION systems are in this country (despite the fact that these men would have had access to the lot of them)

there was a police officer in town with them yesterday and when i asked why he was there, if they were expecting trouble he said that he was meant to esnure they weren't insighting a riot.....whihc he hadn't a clue as he couldn't understand what they were saying!

Nbg · 30/04/2007 15:03

I agree that they need to be kept away from the public because they are dangerous but I just feel like its an easy get away for them.

I'm not sure how I feel about the appropriate punishment for these terrorists. But I am most certainly for the death penalty for Ian Huntly. Actually, I'm probably for it for the terrorists as well. Don't really know enough of the details of these terrorists lives to have an informed opinion on them. But, premeditaated mass murder would probably be enough foo me to be for the death penalty.

Of course, I don't expect to get my way. The death penalty is not an option in this country.
