Do you have one? Your thoughts....
Would you like one? Why?....

you waht??

waht are you on about?

Ooopsydaisy · 27/04/2007 19:40

For one day only Sainsburys' has stopped giving cheapo plastic bags, offering the expensive reusable bags for free while selling a cotton designer bag with the logo " I am not a plastic bag" for £5.00.

This has been done to highlight the problem of disposable plastic bags.

People have been queing for hours at Sainsburys to get one.... now those £5 bags are selling on EBAY at £200.

Why would you want to have one of those, i wonder...if any of you have one?

i think the bags are some sort of sad fashion statement? like ooo look at me, i care about the environment and i am like the celebs in "closer"!

charliecat · 27/04/2007 19:51

I got one, just walked in and got it, no queue. Came home and sold it for £95.
Was worried the arse would fall out the ebay market with so many being available.
In a few weeks noone will be seen dead with one.
I wonder what the owners of them think about themselves? That they are one step closer to being a celebrity?
Its a bit like those blokes wearing T-Shirts with Ben Sherman on it I mean FFS....think about it, they are Mr Chris Sullford, walking round with a t-shirt they have willingly paid £60 for with another mans name on it...fecking HILAROUS.

princessmel · 27/04/2007 19:52

Umm, they went on sale on wednesday. There was a load of threads about them then.

I got one. dh queued for me. I'm not selling it on ebay. I wanted it for me.
I used reuseable bags already.

Most of the people on here thought they were naffolla and were saying how chav they were. I think that covers it!!

Whizzz · 27/04/2007 19:54

I just don't understand why someone would pay £90+ for a bag they know only cost £5

Ooopsydaisy · 27/04/2007 20:02

Today it's been reported that the bags have been manufactured in China by underpaid workers, flying 1000 of miles defeating the initial proposition of caring for the enviroment....

Princess Mel, why do you want one? I am intersted in what makes you want one. You could easily carry any other cotton bag but why this particular one?

You've got to admire the cheek of this ebay seller

MotherSuperior · 27/04/2007 20:27

Don't want one, think they're crap. But may get something that isn;t a plastic bag but also isn;t Anya Hindmarch, did you see her interviewed in Red, I think, it was hilarious (unintentionally)

wheresthehamster · 27/04/2007 20:43

The Q & As are really funny as well melpomene!

TwoIfBySea · 27/04/2007 20:44

MotherSuperior, missed that issue, do you have a link to the interview at all?

I wanted one as I use canvas bags all the time for shopping but am glad I didn't get one now as I hate the whole ebay thing that has gone on. Sainsbury's already sell a reusable bag, it costs £1.

Ah well.

charliecat · 27/04/2007 20:48

and its not just those ones either...

alex8 · 27/04/2007 20:57

my friend just made £70 selling one on ebay. It never pays to underestimate peoples stupidity.

princessmel · 27/04/2007 21:15

I do carry other bags. I use the bookstart one for my shopping and have some of the sainsburys ones that do up with a popper(they fold flat) and a giant aldi one.

I just saw it and liked it and wanted it.

PerfectMother · 27/04/2007 21:21

Ooopsydaisy, you know there were about 30 threads on this on Wednesday?

I got one since I already use re-useables and sainsburys is right opposite my house so only queued for 15 mins.

It is a nice bag but I certainly wouldn't use it for anything other than grocery shopping.

Most of my queue was mums sent down by their daughters who wanted to use it as a schoolbag.

Don't understand what all the fuss is about and why people are getting so anti on here about them.

lubyluby · 27/04/2007 22:07

i don't think it so much the anit re-usable bag i think it has more to do with sainsburys are trying to make an enviromental statement and have used cheap foreign child labour and have flown the gas half way around the worls selling them at a huge profit all in the name of fashion! which surely defeats the object of the bag?

i much prefer my plain discrete john lewis hemp bag to the naff sainsburys one, but if you buy because you feel strongly about the environemnt and want to reuse bags instead of suing plastic, try and make sure it is a t least an ecological bag.

snowwonder · 27/04/2007 22:20

i dont blame sainbury's to be fair, they have had other bags for life designed by some lovely people, they had some black and white pattern ones at xmas that were sooo nice, i love them,
it was hyped up because a few so called celebs were seen with them which makes fashion victims want them and pay through the odds for them - just like i would have been aged 20.

and i love my new one, actually my new 2!!! i will be using for shopping with my others, and i love it..... and i am so glad i got one,

TwoIfBySea · 27/04/2007 22:47

There was a programme on about Grazia magazine the night before the bags went on sale. The editor had one. There is product placement for you.

I have a Charlie & Lola book bag. Wonder what the queues would be like for that, all under 4' I would imagine
