Apologies if there's another thread, I couldn't see one. Clearly if he's off presiding over ceremonies he's not under house arrest is he? It's obviously more complicated but can someone clever explain it to me? Is it all about saving face? How is he actually likely to be taking this?

So how is he our and about whilst under house arrest

OP posts:
ZuluWarrior · 17/11/2017 17:59

From what I understand, the military are reluctant to be seen to be acting unlawfully and therefore would rather see him stand down himself than eject him. He might hang on until the next elections (2018) and stand down then. Which would give Grace more time to stick her oar in.

BurnTheBlackSuit · 17/11/2017 17:59

Here you go Stealth: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/in_the_news/3087464-Coup-in-Zimbabwe-bloodless-transition

It is interesting, but I don't really understand what's going on

TheAntiBoop · 17/11/2017 18:00

It's all about the succession

Probably best sorted before he dies tbh.

Grace is a corrupt evil witch.

Unfortunately the rest of zanu pf aren't much better

StealthPolarBear · 17/11/2017 18:00

Ah thank you zulu. So balancing on both sides to look like the good guys

They can minimise Mugabe speaking in public & spread weird rumours about him & Grace. I can't think of someone who deserves a more ignoble end to power, tbh.

StealthPolarBear · 17/11/2017 18:01

Good in mugabe terms obviously

OP posts:
ZuluWarrior · 17/11/2017 18:03

Mgananagwa isn't necessarily much better - he had done some pretty brutal stuff in his time and if he become leader now be will have more time to steer things to his advantage before the elections. Evan Mawirire is an interesting follow on social media.

StealthPolarBear · 17/11/2017 18:05

Really, I didn't know that. I assumed anything was better than either mugabe. I will look into the twitter recommendation thanks

OP posts:
ZuluWarrior · 17/11/2017 18:05

mnangagwa Blush

TheAntiBoop · 17/11/2017 18:06

Fil has been predicting this for months because grace is so unpopular with the war vets

In time the war vets will die out and the younger generation will take power. Mugabe going isn't going to suddenly make Zimbabwe thrive and have political freedom. There are powerful countries that have an interest in keeping the existing power structures in place but aren't bothered about Mugabe

So it's a step in the right direction but still a slow long road

CoolCarrie · 17/11/2017 18:06

Graceless Grace recently assaulted a woman, battered her with an extension cord, she is a vile piece of work, and her children are just as bad, pouring costly champagne over a very expensive watch, while people are struggling to eat, well I'll be popping a bottle myself when the old bastard dies! They should put the whole crew against a wall and shot them.

StealthPolarBear · 17/11/2017 18:09

I've just been on his twitter feed and he showed a poll that 82% agree with the military. I knew it would be hugh but had no idea to that extent

OP posts:
ZuluWarrior · 17/11/2017 18:11

There was a largely unreported massacre of the minority Ndebele people who mainly live in the south and west of Zim, on Mnangagwa's watch. He denies involvement but there is a lot of hatred for him outside of traditional ZANU-PF supporting areas.

StealthPolarBear · 17/11/2017 18:12

OK so there are no good options? Or are there

OP posts:
ZuluWarrior · 17/11/2017 18:17

I would love to hear more from the main opposition which was Movement for Democratic Change. They have been very quiet recently, their leader being treated for bowel cancer in SA.

StealthPolarBear · 18/11/2017 13:05

As far as I can tell nothing has changed but it's being reported as success

CoolCarrie · 18/11/2017 13:34

The army wanted to get rid of the wife, as she was putting herself forward as the next president, she is only 53 so the people would be suffering many more years under the rule of a Mugabe.

StealthPolarBear · 18/11/2017 19:37

Yes that's a very good point potentially forty more years
