Universal Credit WTF?

CoolCarrie · 18/10/2017 13:34

Just watching a young woman who had to wait 6 fucking weeks to get her money, so lost her child's nursery place and her job!

It's a fucking disgrace and hopefully May's own side will rebel

WTF - so for every month with 5 weeks you lose your claim and gave to reapply? (I'm getting this from the government document ivykaty linked to).

That's utterly nonsensical and cruel.

If you’re paid weekly

"If you’re paid weekly by your employer, you will get either 4 or 5 payments of earnings within a Universal Credit assessment period. Depending on the amount you get paid this may affect your Universal Credit.

When you have 5 weekly earnings payments within an assessment period, your income may be too high to qualify for Universal Credit in that month.

If this happens you will be notified that your income is too high and you will no longer get Universal Credit.

You can re-apply the following month as you should only get 4 wage payments in your assessment period then.

You will need to be prepared for a month when you get 5 wage payments in one assessment period and budget for a potential change in your monthly Universal Credit payments."

My 8 year old could design a better sysyem than this.

WTAF are they trying to do?

raisinsarenottheonlyfruit · 22/10/2017 01:30

Have they never heard of averages?!

Can't they fucking count?

Graphista · 22/10/2017 03:22

"WTAF are they trying to do?"

Precisely what they are doing - killing off the poor, sick and disabled they're just doing it in a more subtle way than others have tried in other countries and eras.

If you are paid fortnightly or four weekly it will also effect you. Four weekly payments will mean that once a year you will get two pay checks in one month and therefore your money will stop and you will need to reapplied, same with fortnightly pay you will have months with three paychecks

What I find even more upsetting is that majority of voters support these kind of inhuman policies. So there is unlikely to be any change for the better....

Ifailed · 22/10/2017 06:59

ivykaty44 Agree about people who are paid every 28 days, which seems to be most of the retail sector.

ivykaty44 · 22/10/2017 07:06

Thing is for people who have money it’s not a problem to have money put aside for when it is needed

But those people aren’t claiming UC as they have money

For the government to say that UC claimants need to prepare by putting money aside it’s just not realistic as UC claimants are living hand to mouth and for a variety of reasons can’t put money aside - often they just can’t afford to

So then there money stops, they may incur charges for non payment of bills and it just makes there situation worse

They were talking about Universal Credit on the Sunday programme on R4. They were at a food bank in Salford and I interviewed a man who has been waiting 8 months to receive his first UC payment and in the meantime has had no money. He had two children and tgey were relying on the food bank. They also interviewed someone fro the Trusell Trust Foodbnk scheme who was saying that the demand for Foodbanks is set to rise to unprecedented levels as so many agencies are now referring people. She doesn't know how Food banks will cope with the surge in demand.

It's heart breaking. Cunting Tories Sad

ScrumpyBetty · 22/10/2017 08:34

Sorry about all the typos. I didn't interview anyone!

In other news, the Spanish government has heavily implied (if not exactly promised) that British migrants will be allowed to stay after Brexit. I'm damned if I can understand why there's anyone still left in the UK. There's a certain 'rabbit in the headlights' paralysis about the British precariat at the moment.

Interesting Agusterella . I would imagine a lot of jobs in Spain rest on the expats, so they aren't going to send them home again unnecessarily.

ivykaty44 · 23/10/2017 21:24

Hester ton - mass unemployment in Spain and a lot of Brit pensioners spending money keeping their economy going, so the Spanish would rather keep them
